Prep girls soccer: Valders suffers home loss

Leading 1-0 after scoring in the 14th minute, the Valders girls soccer team allowed three unanswered goals in a 3-1 home loss to Green Bay NEW Lutheran on Thursday night.

Paige Neumeyer started the game’s scoring on an assist by Lauren Brandl, but Lutheran answered in the 54th minute and scored its second goal nine minutes later.

Obviously, we just needed a few more of our good looks to go in the net,” Valders coach Brian Brandl said in an email, adding that the Vikings dominated the first half — one of the most impressive halves of soccer the team has played. “Sometime you can do everything right and the ball just doesn’t go in. That’s soccer.”

Lutheran added cushion to its lead in the 77th minute with a goal.

Alena Braun made 14 saves for Valders.

Valders, who finishes the regular season 8-6 and third in the Packerland-Olympian Conference with a 4-3 record, next will bet at No. 10 Kewaunee in a regional opener of the WIAA Division 3 State Girls Soccer Tournament. The Vikings are a No. 7 seed after finishing in the top half the POC for the first time in program history.
