The No.2-3 doubles teams each won their respective flights as the Manitowoc Lincoln girls tennis team finished second overall with 34 points on Saturday at the seven-team Trojan Raider Invite hosted by Wauwatosa East.
Justine Jacobs and Hannah Ramminger (No. 2 doubles) were victorious in all three matches for the Ships. The duo won their first match 6-1, 6-0 before prevailing 6-7, 6-1 (10-6) in the semifinal. Against Kenosha St. Joeseph’s in the championship, Jacobs-Ramminger won 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 3 doubles, Jen Belisle and Dayna Decker won their first match 6-0, 6-1 over East and St. Joes 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinal. In the championship match, the pair won 6-0, 5-7 (10-3) over Oconomowoc.
Finishing out doubles for Lincoln were the No. 1 duo of Sydney Verbauwhede and Michaela Jagemann, who won their first two matches 6-2, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-4 before falling 6-4, 4-6 (11-9) in the championship to Oconomowoc.
The lone singles player to finish in the top three was Bailey Budnik, who took second in the No. 1 flight. Budnik defeated Franklin’s Kassie Murawski 6-2, 6-1 and Mikaela Coose of Wilmot 6-2, 6-0 to reach the final. Nicole Meylor of Wauwatosa West ended up stopping Budnik’s run 6-7, 7-6 (11-9) in the championship.
