Prep girls tennis: Piaskowski qualifies for State

Roncalli sophomore Tallie Piaskowski is no stranger to the WIAA Division 2 State girls tennis tournament, having finished second at State at doubles last season.

This time, she’ll be returning to Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison for the singles competition after finishing second at No. 1 singles on Thursday at the D2 sectional in Kohler. Piaskowski will enter the tournament, which runs Thursday-Saturday of next week, with a 19-3 record and is the only automatic qualifier from the area.

Chloe Kitzerow (20-2) took second the No. 2 singles flight for the Jets while teammates Laura Platteter (No. 3, 16-5) and Maya Ledvina (No. 4, 17-4) finished fourth and third, respectively, to round out the singles flights.

In doubles for Roncalli, Hannah Kubsh and Maddie Salutz (No. 1, 11-9) lost their first match while teammates Julia Platteter and Abby Welnetz (No. 2, 15-7) and Nikki Froelich and Paulina Vaca (No. 3, 6-13) each took fourth. Also from the area at No. 1 doubles, was Two Rivers’ Ashley Kakuk and Gabby Yokiel (10-8), but like their Roncalli counterparts they failed to win their first match.

Special qualifiers for the D2 State tournament will be released this weekend.
