PORTLAND — Portland St. Patrick has turned the CMAC girls basketball championship into a two-horse race with a 51-38 home win over Laingsburg Thursday night.

Danielle Simon led all scorers with 14 points and Courtney Dixon added 13 for the Shamrocks (10-1 overall, 7-1 CMAC), who finished the first half of the league schedule one game behind Pewamo-Westphalia for the league lead, and two games ahead of the rest of the CMAC.

St. Pats blew open what had been a close game with a 13-2 run in the second quarter, fueled by pressure defense.

Quincie Mitchell led the Wolfpack (7-4, 5-3) with 11 points and her younger sister Jalynn added 10.
