Siegel senior Charles Clark has joined an exclusive club. He is one of 21 high school boys basketball players from Tennessee that are McDonald’s All-American nominees.
“We’re very excited for him and his family,” Siegel coach Ben Dotson said. “He’s been working hard the last couple of years to improve his shooting and his overall game.
“This is a great accomplishment for him.”
Joining Clark as nominees include CPA’s Jake Allsmiller and Braxton Bonds, Arlington’s C.J. Anderson, Jackson Southside’s Jaylen Barford, White Station’s Leron Black, Curtis Phillips, Chris Chiozza, Davell Roby and Ladarious Coleman, Christian Brother’s Josh Bougher, Humboldt’s Desonta Bradford, East Nashville’s Terry Holt, Whitehaven’s Marcanvis Hymon, Raliegh-Edypt’s Fatodd Lewis, FRA’s Rob Mayberry, Kenwood’s Daniel Norl, Brentwood’s Andy Schumpert, Karns’ Devin Sibley, Wilson Central’s Jacob Williams and Meigs County’s Levi Woods.
Siegel returns to action at Antioch at 6 p.m. Friday.
7 named to all-state team
Seven Rutherford County girls soccer standouts were recently named to the Tennessee Soccer Coaches All-State Team.
* Senior midfielder Brianna Sears and sophomore goalkeeper Emma Grace Goldman represented Oakland on the Class AAA team.
* Senior midfielder Isabella Oviedo and senior defender Meredith White represented Siegel.
* Senior forward Megan Woods and senior midfielder Colleen Kennedy were on the team from Blackman.
* Junior forward Sierra Franz represented Smyrna.
Riverdale senior Brandon Harvey led a group of local runners this past weekend at the Footlocker South Region Cross Country 5K race.
Harvey finished with a time of 15:38 and was 52nd in the seeded race. Oakland junior Eli Leskinen finished with a time of 15:40 and Central Magnet junior Andre Hillsman finished with a time of 15:46.
The Rutherford County trio placed in the top 75 of 319 runners in the seeded race.
Hardin Valley’s Aaron Templeton won the race with a time of 14:36.
Siegel junior Nicole Gardner finished the girls’ race with a time of 18:07 and was 36th.
Spivey signs with Huntingdon
Blackman senior golfer Kelsey Spivey recently signed with Huntingdon College, located in Montgomery Ala.
Spivey is a two-time Class AAA state tournament qualifier. She averaged 85.1 this season for the Lady Blaze.
Middle school hoops update
Three boys and four girls teams sit atop the Rutherford County Middle School basketball standings through Monday night’s contests.
Blackman, Oakland and Whitworth-Buchanan all are 3-0 in league play on the boys side. Rock Springs is 2-0.
On the girls side, Blackman, Christiana, Oakland and Whitworth-Buchanan all are 3-0 in league play.
