Ricardo Arguello goes one-on-one with New London junior guard Amber Pethke:

Q: Your team is back at the state tournament. You haven’t lost a game in over two years. What’s it going to take to claim a third straight state championship?

A: I think that in order to claim another championship all we have to do is work together and click like we have been, and just give it our all like we normally do.

Q: What do you think about the state tournament being at the Resch Center?

A: I think it has the possibility of being a good change. I know many people, along with myself, were disappointed to hear the news at first. But the thing is, it’s not all about the location. Players are still going to be playing the same competitive basketball, and the fans are still going to be able to watch some great girls ball.

Q: Your family is very basketball-oriented. Can you talk about how you got into playing basketball?

A: I was carted around to many of my older sisters’ basketball practices and games when I was younger, and this is how I became interested in basketball. I first started out learning from my sisters and my mom, then I participated in some camps. As I got older, I became a stronger player and really started to love the game.

Q: Congratulations! You just won two VIP tickets to see any musical artist of your choice. Which artist are you going to go see and whom are you going to take with you?

A: I think that The Band Perry would be a fun group to watch with one of my sisters.

Q: It’s favorites time! What’s your favorite TV show?

A: “Pretty Little Liars” is the show that I look forward to every week. It’s so dramatic, and I love it!

Q: Favorite movie?

A: “The Little Rascals.” It will forever be a classic!

Q: Favorite aspect of New London High School?

A: My favorite aspect of New London High School is that I can socialize through sports, but still do hard work.

Q: Favorite gift from this past Christmas?

A: The heart locket I received from my mom.

Q: Favorite book?

A: “The Hunger Games” is a very entertaining book. And it’s still better than the movie.

Q: Favorite store to have a shopping spree?

A: Forever 21.

Q: Favorite meal prepared by mom?

A: My mom’s spaghetti is killer. It’s even perfect for a pregame dinner the night before.

Q: Favorite vacation spot?

A: Florida has been the only vacation spot for me, so I would guess that is my favorite!

Q: Congratulations! You found the genie in the lamp! You get three wishes. What would those three wishes be?

A: One of my wishes would be to have my own personal car — no sharing with anyone! My second wish would be to continue through life having a positive outlook on all things. And although it may sound cheesy, I would love to become more involved in helping people who are less fortunate.

Q: Finish this sentence: The New London girls’ basketball team will …

A: Make our town proud!
