Post-Crescent sports reporter Ricardo Arguello goes one-on-one with Chilton wrestler Austin Hephner:
Q: You’ve had a great season thus far. How confident are you heading into the state meet?
A: I feel confident, but I take it one match at a time because at state nothing is given.
Q: For those of us who haven’t attended a state wrestling meet at the Kohl Center, what’s the atmosphere like?
A: I have been down to multiple state events and wrestling by far has the most people and best fan base. The atmosphere is ecstatic and I think that everyone should experience this once in their life, especially Championship Saturday. “Beach Balls.”
Q: You were also a fantastic football player for the Tigers this year in the fall. What’s more rewarding: getting a quick, dominating pin in wrestling or bursting through the line for a 30-yard touchdown in football?
A: This is a tough decision, but it would have to come down to the quality of the opponent I’m wrestling or what the scenario is for the football game.
Q: What is the greatest invention in the past 50 years?
A: The smart phones because they allow internet access at the palm of your hand.
Q: Congrats! You just won two first-class vacation packages to go anywhere in the world. Where are you going and whom are you taking with you?
A: I would go to Miami, Fla., with my best friend Tim Kolbe to the producing studios of “Burn Notice” to be a special guest.
Q: It’s favorites time! What’s your favorite movie?
Q: Favorite Christmas present from this past year?
A: Two years ago I got New York Giants tickets versus the Green Bay Packers
Q: Favorite Hollywood dream date?
A: “Daisy Duke.”
Q: Favorite place to relax at your house?
Q: Favorite national holiday?
Q: Favorite place to vacation?
A: My camper at Lake Winnebago.
Q: Favorite TV show?
A: “Walking Dead” and “Burn Notice.”
Q: Favorite breakfast cereal?
A: Reese’s Peanut Butter Crunch.
Q: Favorite aspect of Chilton High School?
Q: Congratulations! You just won $100 million in the PowerBall! What are the first three things you’re buying with the loot?
A: House next to a body of water, a candy store, and a Huskie puppy.
Q: You’re heading to Bemidji State to play football. What attracted you to the school and what are your expectations?
A: What attracted me to Bemidji State was the location and the feeling of home, plus the players, from freshman to senior, treated me like I was already a part of the team. My expectations are to come in physically fit and ready to compete for a starting spot.
