Post-Crescent staff writer Ricardo Arguello goes one-on-one with Xavier senior forward Erin Garvey:
Q: Your team is 10-1 on the season and playing extremely well. What were some of the expectations that you ladies had coming into the season?
A: With the returning players that we had and with the addition of the underclassmen, I felt that as a team we have the potential to have a very successful season and to compete well in our conference. So far things have been going very well.
Q: There’s a lot of athleticism on your team and your team plays great defense. Was it hard to buy into playing tough defense because it’s usually something that doesn’t get a lot of press?
A: We take pride in our defense and realize by playing good defense we can create opportunities to score off turnovers.
Q: What has been your experience playing for your father, the head coach at Xavier?
A: I feel lucky that I can play for such an experienced coach. He motivates us to work hard and take the game seriously, yet there is never a dull moment with his humorous comments.
Q: Congratulations! You’ve won two first-class airplane tickets and an all-expenses paid vacation to any destination in the world. Where are you going and whom are you taking with you?
A: I would take my sister Megan to Cabo San Lucas so we could soak up the rays and lay poolside.
Q: It’s favorites time! What’s your favorite breakfast cereal?
A: Special K Fruit & Yogurt.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: “Crazy Stupid Love.”
Q: Favorite TV show?
A: “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette.”
Q: Favorite place to relax?
A: Anywhere where I can be out in the sun.
Q: Favorite actor/actress?
A: Emma Stone.
Q: Favorite aspect of Xavier High School?
A: Xavier provides many opportunities to grow spiritually and academically.
Q: Favorite store to have a shopping spree?
A: Lulu Lemon.
Q: Favorite book?
A: “To Kill A Mockingbird.”
Q: Favorite present from this past Christmas?
A: iPhone.
Q: Congrats! You have found the genie in the lamp. You get three wishes. What would those three wishes be?
A: I would wish for a Black Range Rover so I can ride in style, a date with Ryan Gosling, and the chance to be serenaded on stage by Justin Bieber at one of his concerts.
Q: What’s the next step for you? Are you looking to play collegiately anywhere? Any thoughts on a major?
A: I would like to go to either Madison or the University of Minnesota. I’m not planning on playing at the collegiate level but I plan on playing intramurals for sure. I haven’t decided on a major yet, but I would like to do something in the medical field.
