Luke’s week

The offensive and defensive lineman has been an important cog in the Panthers’ march through the regular season. He was recently named a semifinalist for the Joe Thomas Award, given each year to the state’s top senior offensive lineman.

All-time team sports achievement

Going to the third round of the football playoffs last year

All-time individual achievement

Being named to the second-team All-State baseball team as a junior catcher last season

No. 1 athletic goal

“I guess for a team standpoint, to either win State for baseball or football. Personally, I guess just being named to a first-team All-State team.”

Coach Dan Knaus’s thoughts

“He’s just kind of a little animal out there at times. … He just continues to give 100 percent every play, and I think that kind of helps him in the long run make up for his lack of size at times. … Luke has been just the role model for our linemen in our program. Doesn’t matter how big or small you are, if you work at it and put the time and effort in and you play with effort and tenacity, you’re going to be a pretty good football player.”

Luke’s thoughts

“Some of our team goals were to win conference, go undefeated in conference. We have one more game, and if we can win that game, we can clinch that goal. Some of my personal goals are, I guess — last year, I didn’t play a whole lot of defense, so this year I kind of wanted to step up my game on defense, play a little more, improve myself, on both sides of the ball actually, and I think I’ve done that so far. … Team for football has been playing very well, only one loss. So gotta keep it rolling, I guess. … Just see where (the Joe Thomas Award nomination) takes me, see if it brings any other accolades or anything. It’s a pretty cool honor.”
