Post-Crescent sports reporter Ricardo Arguello goes one-on-one with Kaukauna junior wrestler Robert Lee.
Q: You’re having another strong season, but let’s talk about the unfortunate ending to last season at the individual tournament. How tough was it to fall to Burlington’s Josh Bird in that 120-pound final when it certainly appeared to me and everyone at the Kohl Center that you had the reversal and near-fall to get you the victory?
A: It was really hard to take it all in right away, but to be honest I’m glad that happened. If that wouldn’t have happened last season, I wouldn’t have the motivation that I do right now to be a state champion this year and more importantly to go and win our team a team state title.
Q: You have a busy off-season. Can you tell me all the tournaments you wrestled at this past year. Do you enjoy the travel aspect and seeing new places?
A: The tournaments I have been to were nationals in Iowa, Brute nationals in Missouri, Fargo nationals in Fargo (N.D.) and the Grappler Falls Classic in Michigan. I loved going to these places because you see different competition out there and you wrestle new people instead of the ones you wrestle all season long. It’s a really cool thing to do on the off-season.
Q: This year’s Kaukauna team might be one of the best ever in the program. How focused are you and your teammates this season?
A: We are very focused and very hungry. We have four goals and that is to be conference champs, regional champs, sectional champs and then finally to get our first team state title in the history of this program.
Q: Do you imagine playing any other sport? Would you play another sport if there was no wrestling at Kaukauna?
A: Yes, I think I would play baseball. I loved playing baseball growing up, but when high school hit I knew I had to focus more on wrestling.
Q: It’s favorites time! What’s your favorite movie?
A: Definitely “Monsters Inc.”
Q: Favorite aspect of Kaukauna High School.
A: The leadership that takes place there.
Q: Favorite breakfast cereal?
A: Golden Grahams.
Q: Favorite TV show?
A: I am currently addicted on the show “Prison Break.”
Q: Favorite fast-food restaurant?
A: Burger King.
Q: Favorite place to relax?
A: A friend’s house.
Q: Favorite childhood toy?
A: These Pro wrestling action figures that my dad would buy for us all the time when we were little. My favorite I would have to say was Kurt Angle.
Q: Congratulations! You just won $200 million in the Power Ball! What are the first three things you’re buying with the money?
A: I would buy myself a four wheeler, a PlayStation 4 and give some money to my parents and my brothers too!
Q: Have you decided where you will be wrestling in college? Any early thoughts on a major?
A: No, I’m still thinking on what I want to be when I get older, but I don’t want to go too far away from home either.
