Winter track

Buena Regional High School senior Casey Sturts broke the meet record in the pole vault at the NJSIAA Group I South sectional championships in Toms River on Thursday. Sturts cleared a height of 10 feet, 7 inches. The performance was part of the Chiefs’ overall team title.

Vineland’s Leaquan James Jr. won the 800-meter run in Group IV South sectional championships on Sunday with a times of 2 minutes, .42 seconds. The Fighting Clan also got a first-place finish from Christian Castro, who won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.9 seconds.

Millville’s William Poley took second in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 6 inches.

Michael Holloway Jr. scored a game-high 21 points to help lead the Lions to victory.

Steven Tobolski added 14 points in the win while Christopher Burch chipped in with 12.
