SARTELL – Sartell boys soccer coach Matt Hager made a lineup adjustment early and the Sabres beat St. Cloud Cathedral 3-0 in a nonconference boys soccer match Saturday.

The Crusaders are ranked No. 6 in the latest state coaches association Class A poll.

Hager said that he moved Zac Jacobson from midfield to center defense to help thwart the Crusaders’ offense.

“That seemed to help neutralize their attack,” Hager said.

Seniors Kellen Cameron and Kyle Erickson had goals in the first half for the Sabres (5-1-1). Junior Carter Kasianov scored early in the second half to make it 3-0 and sophomore goalkeeper Cullen Johnson made 10 saves for Sartell.

“Cullen Johnson gave us some excellent goalkeeping and the guys came out hard and we played one of our stronger games,” Hager said. “The guys are pretty excited. We usually have a pretty good rivalry with them.

“We figured it would be a hard fought game and they were excited to win.”

MOORHEAD – Kevin Argueta scored 2:40 into the game and that’s all the offense St. Cloud Apollo needed to get past Moorhead in nonconference play.

Sartell 3, St. Cloud Cathedral 2

SARTELL – Olivia Garner scored the game-winning goal with 15 minutes left in the second half to lift Sartell over St. Cloud Cathedral.

It was Garner’s first varsity goal.
