STILLWATER – The Sartell 1,600-meter relay team took first with a time of 4 minutes, 7.85 seconds to lead the Sabres girls to the Class 2A state true team championship on Saturday.
The Sabres had 417 points, 25 points ahead of second place Totino-Grace (392).
Totino-Grace won the Class 2A boys state true team title with 424 points. Sartell was second with 371.
“What a tremendous performance for us,” Sartell head track and field coach Jeff Kellerman said. “The kids just competed and battled all day long.
“I can’t tell you how proud we are. Both our teams were runners up to Totino-Grace last year and we graduated 33 seniors from those teams. We’ve got so many new kids and kids out for track for the first time who have blended in with our veterans. They just performed and acted like a team and I’m proud to say I’m the head coach.”
It is the sixth state true team title for the Sabres, who last won the championship in 2006.
Other individual highlights for the Sartell girls:
Senior Kelsey Mohlenkamp took second in the high jump (5 feet).
Junior Sophie VanSurksum took third in the 100 hurdles (16.62) and junior Maddie Meier was fourth in the event (16.73). Meier also took third in the 300 hurdles (47.50).
Sabres sophomore Mackenzie Dockendorf took third in the 3,200 (12:03.34).
Sartell’s 400 relay team took second (52.02), its 800 relay team took third (1:50.11) and its 3,200 relay team was fourth (10:15.23).
In the boys meet for Sartell, senior Josh Lieberg won the high jump (6-4), freshman Jake Lieberg was second in the triple jump (41-3.25) and junior Trever Nordlund was second in the pole vault (12-6) to lead the way.
Senior Drew Voshell took third in the 100 (11.87), senior Quinn Anderson was third in the shot put (48-2) and third in the discus (143-4), junior Hodari Johnson was fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.56) and in the long jump (20-7.5), junior Braden Doucette took fourth in the 300 hurdles (41.98) and junior Alex Haima was fourth in the high jump (5-10).
The Sabres’ 3,200 relay team was fourth (8:38.44).

Class A boys
STILLWATER – Sophomore Abraham Skwira won the 3,200 meters in 10:25.40 and took second in the 1,600 (4:40.79) to lead the Holdingford boys track team to a fourth-place finish in the Class A state true team meet.
Huskers sophomore Grant Bullert took second in the high jump (5-8), third in the triple jump (39-6) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.87).
Sophomore Andrew Zachman took second in the 3,200 (10:26.35) and senior Kyle Kolstad took second in the pole vault (12-0) for Holdingford.

ST. CLOUD TECH 5, MOORHEAD 4
MOORHEAD – Noah Voight’s two-out double scored Tanner Skaja with the winning run in the top of the seventh to give the Tigers the win.
Andrew Eisenreich picked up the complete game win, scattering nine hits and giving up one earned run with four strikeouts and one walk.
Shortstop Chase Aleshire, catcher Joe Setrum and first baseman Jake Samuelson each had two hits apiece for Tech. Samuelson had a double and two RBI.
ST. CLOUD TECH 12, ALEXANDRIA 4
ALEXANDRIA – Chase Aleshire was 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI, Isaac Matchinsky was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI and Jake Samuelson was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI to lead a 13-hit attack for the Tigers.
Joe Setrum was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Casey Underwood had two RBI and scored two runs for Tech.
Robert Praetorius scattered 11 hits and gave up three earned runs in getting the complete-game victory. He struck out one and walked two.
Sauk Rapids 5,
MONTICELLO – The Storm scored one in the first and four in the third and held on for a nonconference win.
Junior Tyler Bjork was 2-for-3 with a double, junior Matt Meyer was 2-for-4 with two RBI and junior Nate Freihammer was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI for the Storm (8-6).
Bjork gave up three hits, one earned run over 51⁄3 innings to get the win. Bjork struck out three and walked three.
Senior Trev0r Waldorf pitched 12⁄3 innings to get the save.
PAYNESVILLE – Paynesville sophomore Nick Dingman scored on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the sixth for the winning run in a nonconference game.
Junior Blake Karsch threw two shutout innnings in releif to get the win and Dingmann was 1-for-3 with a triple for the Bulldogs (7-5 overall).

BECKER – Midfielder Emily Dorn had four goals and midfielder Jill Kedrowski and attacker Abby Pierskalla added three apiece for St. Cloud in its loss.
