The Harper Creek boys’ track and field team defeated visiting Lakeview in a tri-meet on Tuesday night, ending the Spartans’ streak of consecutive victories.

The Beavers won by a narrow score of 83-80, marking Lakeview’s first loss in a dual meet in over seven years (34-0).

Harper Creek defeated Loy Norrix 130-30 while Lakeview beat Loy Norrix 130-32.

In the girls’ meet, Lakeview defeated Harper Creek (131-31) and Loy Norrix (137-23) while the Beavers topped Loy Norrix (107.5-48.5).

(At) Niles 4-6, Coldwater 1-7 (Tue.): In Game 1, Coldwater’s Taylor Kesler had two hits and Brendan Spangler had an RBI. The Cardinals’ Ian Wright won Game 2, which went five innings due to darkness, with two strikeouts while allowing five hits. Grant Maurer earned the save, and also had three hits including a double and an RBI. Also for the Cardinals (2-2), Skylar Reincke had two doubles and an RBI while Ryan Mock and Kelvin Miller had two hits and an RBI apiece.

(At) Gull Lake 3, Mattawan 2 (Tue.): Nic Janssen earned the win for Gull Lake in three innings of relief, throwing three strikeouts. Offensively for the Blue Devils, Aaron Fadden, Colton Bradley and Patrick Gaudard had an RBI apiece, all coming in the fifth inning.

Union City 7, Homer 6 (eight innings, Tue.): Union City’s Chris Rieger hit a three-run homer , and Nolan Loss singled and scored the winning run in the eighth. Also for the Chargers, Cody Cable had a double, Brady Johnson had two doubles and scored three runs . Hunter Johns got the win in five innings of relief with two strikeouts. Homer’s Brock Ridgeway had two singles, two RBIs and scored two runs while Tyler Ridgway had two singles and a run scored.

Reading 11, (At) Athens 0 (five innings, Tue.): Reading scored 11 unearned runs in the first inning while holding Athens hitless for five innings.

(At) Concord 9-5, Quincy 4-1 (Tue.): In Game 1, Quincy’s Stephan Avra had two hits and two RBIs. In Game 2, Jimmy Strock had two hits and an RBI for the Orioles.

(at) Comstock 15-11, Delton Kellogg 0-1 (Tue.): In Game 2, Delton Kellogg’s T.J. Wooden and Zach Meyers each had a double while Jared Buckland singled.


(At) Athens 6-2, Reading 2-8 (Tue.): Taylor Vaughn picked up the Game 1 win for Athens. Offensively on the night for the Indians, Valerie Rubley had two doubles and a single and Ashley Smittendorf had a single, a double and a triple.

Homer 5-12, Union City 3-3 (Tue.): In Game 1, Homer’s Jaimie Dibble got the win with seven strikeouts. Offensively for the Trojans, Kelsey Konkol had two singles and an RBI; Alexis Salow had a double and an RBI and Kristin Nelson singled with two RBIs. Union City Shane Hasty with a hit and two RBIs. In Game 2, Homer’s Mallory Ray got the victory with two strikeouts. The Trojans were led at the plate by Ray with two triples and three RBIs; Mallori Konkle with three singles; Ashlyn Swafford with two singles and three RBIs; Stephanie Osborn with a single, double and two RBIs; Molly Renfroe with a single, double and an RBI and Kristin Nelson with two hits and an RBI. Union City’s Carley Dibert had two hits.


(At) Olivet 1, Maple Valley 0: Caity Hines scored on a penalty kick in the win for Olivet. Maddy Collins made five saves in goal for the Eagles (1-2).

(At) Pennfield 4, Parchment 0: Lindsey Shive had two goals for Pennfield in the win while Lauren Smith and Elizabeth Jarrard added a goal apiece. Sam Tuttle made seven saves in goal in the season-opening win for the Panthers.

Quincy 3, Olivet
0 (Tue.): Quincy’s Liz Counterman scored two goals and added an assist to Kenzie Moore in the season-opening win. Katie Santi made five saves in goal for the Orioles.


St. Joe Valley Jamboree (Tue.): Centreville finished with a low round of 163 at the Bronson Golf Club. The host Vikings were second with 173.

Bronson’s Robert O’Rourke was the medalist with a 37. Also scoring for the Vikings were Jonah Houtz (40), Austin Pierson (46), Ryan O’Rourke (50) and Patrick Brabon (54).

Delton Kellogg 177, (at) St. Philip 217 (Tue.): Delton Kellogg’s Sarah Shipley was the medalist with a round of 42 at Binder Park (Natural nine). Also scoring for the Panthers were Zack Simon and Conner Worm (43s) and Alex Lepird (49). St. Philip’s scorers were Brendan Gausselin (47), Fred Hallacy (48), Trenton Bartsch and James Fleming (61s).


Mattawan 19, Pennfield 7 (Tue.): Ethan Everett and Bryce Bohrmann had two goals apiece in the loss for Pennfield. Also for the Panthers (1-1), Mitchell Carpenter, Zac Willber and Taylor Schott scored goals, while Zach Collins made nine saves.
