The Lakeview girls’ volleyball team pulled out a come-from-behind 3-2 win against Coldwater in its first SMAC match of the season on Wednesday.
Playing in front of their home crowd, the Spartans trailed 2-0 after losing the first two games (15-25, 21-25), but bounced back to take the last three games (25-21, 25-20, 15-10).
“Our student section was awesome. They helped us get through tonight’s match when we were behind and we can’t thank them enough,” said Lakeview coach Heather Sawyer. “It was a crazy comeback.”
The Spartans’ Casey Looper notched 14 kills, 28 digs, five aces and two blocks. Julie Haring led Lakeview (10-9 overall) with 15 kills and Madison Olsen added 10 kills and 15 digs. Also for the Spartans, Julia Miller had 55 assists and four aces.
(At) Harper Creek 3, Loy Norrix 0: Harper Creek won its first league match 25-15, 25-14, 25-15. Olivia Leson and Lauren Grimes led the Beavers with 11 kills. Baylee Hayes served four aces, Edrie Ganey had 19 assists, Katie Wade had nine assists and Kendall Latshaw had 21 digs and three aces for Harper (10-6-3)..
Sturgis 3, (at) BCC 0: Madeline Stagner had four kills and 12 digs for BCC; Madisonn Jackson had two kills, two blocks and 10 digs; and Makyla Robinson had two kills and two blocks.
Delton Kellogg 7, (at) Maple Valley 0: Delton Kellogg’s Lucas Hansen scored four goals and Cole Mabie had four assists. Keith Malachowski scored twice and had an assist and Landon Grizzle added a goal. Jeff Minehart had four saves in his shutout effort in goal. Maple Valley goalie Bryan Vemton had 19 saves.
(At) Marshall 4, Harper Creek 0 (Tue.): Marshall was led by Dillon Debrabander’s two goals and Brady Longman’s three assists. Jin Kim and Antonio Lerma also scored for the Redhawks (6-2-1). Harper Creek goalie Jack Bohannon had 17 saves.
