The Pace High baseball team won its first game Friday at the annual Florida-Georgia Challenge, hosted by Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Ga.

Pace (3-0) beat Columbus High 3-2 by scoring the winning run in the seventh inning.

Greg Rengal got Pace on the board with a two-run single in the fourth inning. Tommy McMillion and Colby Sweat each doubled for the Patriots.

Pace continues play in the tournament today with two more games.

Jaguars roll Arnold

Stephen Penrose gave up just one hit over six innings as West Florida rolled past visiting District 1-5A opponent Panama City Arnold 10-1 to remain undefeated.

West Florida scored seven runs in the first inning, and Penrose struck out six batters and walked one as the Jaguars picked up their second district win.

Reise Bell led the West Florida offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Panama City Rutherford ran past host Gulf Breeze 13-1.

Junior Dalton Edwards pitched a no-hitter, and Jay routed District 2-1A opponent Chipley 13-0 in a game that ended after six innings on the mercy rule.

Edwards threw all six innings and allowed just one baserunner in the game.

A.J. Nash led the Royals at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double.

Paterson blanks Bethlehem

Pat Paterson opened Central High’s season by pitching five innings of no-hit baseball as the Jaguars scored 14 runs in three innings to shut out visiting Bethlehem 14-0.

Jonathan Ronloff led the Jaguars at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple, RBI and three runs scored. Wendell Colley added a three-run single, while Nolan Frady and Nick Waters each scored twice.

Mason Fryman struck out eight batters and David Moorhead had three RBIs as Tate rolled past visiting Thomasville (Ga.) 12-1 in five innings.

Fryman gave up just one hit and Moorhead went 3-for-3 at the plate. J.T. Granat added two runs and went 1-for-2 with a double. Maverick Chapman didn’t record a hit, but scored two runs with three stolen bases and a walk for Tate.

Escambia surged for five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to drop visiting Milton 6-3.

The Gators (4-3) were led by Carlene Langlois, who hit 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Jamie Goodwin and Savannah Ullrich each added two RBIs for Escambia.

Ciarra Melvin produced two RBIs and a double for Milton.
