City wrestling teams had a solid showing Saturday at the Bob Drysdale Invitational with both host, Poudre High School, and Fort Collins each winning three duals.
Emery Lee went undefeated at 170 pounds, while Poudre teammate Gabe Marquez also went 5-0 at 152 pounds. Bo Daniel Hagans (132) went 4-1.
Fort Collins’ Brandon Dunnum (152) went 5-0 in his bouts against Doherty, Regis, Northglenn and Mountain View. Fellow Lambkins, Jacob Fisher (138), Riley Thomas (126) and Luke Sheesley (145) all went 4-1 on the day.
Poudre beat Northglenn, Highlands Ranch and Douglas County, while dropping duals to Palmer Ridge and Arapahoe. Scores were not reported.
Fort Collins beat Regis 43-26, Northglenn 48-24 and Mountain View 39-27. The Lambkins lost 45-29 to Eaton and 37-30 to Doherty.
EVERGREEN INVITATIONAL — Fossil Ridge won the invitational in Evergreen, scoring 267 points as four SaberCats took home first-place honors on Saturday.
Matthew Rayas won at 106 pounds, Taylor Killion was champion at 138 and Dillan Morrison won at 145. Austen Lindsay was champion at 160 pounds.
Jack Wallace (113), Trevor Brown (132), Dalton Riba (170) and Payton Tapia (195) all finished runner-up. Payton Killion (126), Elliott Smith (152) and Matt Young (182) placed third.
Matthew Jensen, wrestling unattached, placed fourth at 152.
LONE STAR DUALS — The streak is over for the Windsor wrestling team. The Wizards, who were inching toward the Colorado high school state record for most consecutive duals won, fell 29-28 to Brother Martin (La.) in the final of the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Saturday.
Windsor’s streak ends at 54 consecutive duals — five short of tying Fort Morgan’s 59, set in the 1970s.
RESURRECTION CHRISTIAN 52, WRAY 31 — Luke Mondt scored 14 and Wyatt Simon added 13 as Resurrection Christian easily handled Wray on Saturday afternoon.
Resurrection Christian (6-3, 1-0 Mile High League) built upon a 26-16 halftime lead with a 16-point third quarter, while holding Wray (2-5) to just four points in the quarter.
Brock Buxman added 10 for the Cougars, who play Alexander Dawson on Friday.
YUMA 62, HIGHLAND 51 — An early 12-point lead and Emily Andersen’s 19 points wasn’t enough for Highland to knock off visiting Yuma Saturday night.
Highland’s Jamie Clawson picked up her third foul early in the second with the Huskies up 18-6 and Yuma quickly closed the gap with 21 second-quarter points to take a 25-24 halftime lead. Yuma would lead the rest of the way as Highland (6-3) shot just 5-for-23 from the free throw line.
MUSTANG INVITATIONAL — Fossil Ridge scored 396 points to win the Mustang Invitational at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton on Saturday.
Rhianna Williams won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races, while Fossil Ridge teammate, Bailey Nero won the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle. The two paired up to held lead the 400-yard freestyle relay to a win.
Samie Guay won the 100-yard breast and was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay, along with Nero. She and Williams also helped lead the SaberCats’ 200-yard freestyle relay to a win.
Fort Collins scored 192.5 points to finish third, while fellow city school, Rocky Mountain, placed 10th with 90 points.
Collins’ Elise Mooney finished second in the 100 breast, Elise Forzley was second in the 100 butterfly and Tessa Thull placed second in the 500 freestyle.
Class 4A Windsor scored 51 points for 14th at the site of next month’s 4A state meet.
