Prep roundup: Resurrection Christian hockey team falls in finale

The Resurrection Christian hockey team dominated puck possession and shots all night long, but fell down by two goals to eventually lose 2-1 to Standley Lake in the final game of the regular season. The Cougars (14-3-2, 10-2-2 Foothills League) got one goal back, but despite peppering the Standley Lake net in the third, the Cougars couldn’t find a key goal.

“They played great,” RCS coach Jake Pence said of his team. “We controlled the puck three-quarters of the night. You’ve got to bear down when you get chances, because they don’t come along very often. The third period was a microcosm of the whole game, we needed to score goals and we didn’t.”

The playoffs will begin next Friday for RCS, with the bracket being released on Sunday.

FOSSIL RIDGE 82, GREELEY WEST 38 — The SaberCats outscored Greeley West 45-14 in the second half, cruising to the easy Front Range League victory.

Alec Quaid led Fossil Ridge (17-4, 12-2 FRL) with 16 points, teammate Corey Peter added 15 and Cody McCoy pitched in 14 for the SaberCats, who host city-foe Fort Collins on Tuesday.

WINDSOR 77, BERTHOUD 43 — Senior Dylan Ochsner scored his teams first 13 points and finished with a game-high 29, including six 3-pointers as Windsor (16-6, 11-2 Tri-Valley) got an easy home victory Friday. With the win the Wizards clinch at least a share of the Tri-Valley title. They can win the conference outright with a victory in their last regular season game, home Tuesday against Erie.

“We need to get after it Tuesday and see where we’re at from there,” Windsor coach Dustin Duncan said. “We’re playing pretty well right now, hopefully we can keep it up.”

FOSSIL RIDGE 58, GREELEY WEST 39 — Seniors Gabby Smith and Lauren Roeling scored 17 and 12 points, respectively as the SaberCats won their fifth straight Front Range League game.

Fossil Ridge (15-6, 9-5 FRL) scored 21 second-quarter points to take a 32-13 halftime lead. Daisha Shumpert and Harper Sheets each scored 12 for Greeley West (4-17, 1-13).

LOVELAND 65, ROCKY MOUNTAIN 51 — The Indians caught fire from outside, sinking 12 3-pointers to down Rocky Mountain High School, spoiling a 28-point night from Anna Ernst.

Kelcey Bedard added 10 points for Rocky (7-14, 3-10 FRL) which outscored Loveland 30-23 in the second half.

WINDSOR 51, BERTHOUD 37 — Korbyn Ukasick scored 21 points and Brooke Pemberton added a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds as Windsor rolled to its 13th straight Tri-Valley League win.

The Wizards (19-3, 13-0 Tri Valley) jumped to a 12-3 first quarter lead, but Berthoud brought the score to 19-13 at the half.
