MARION – Dathan Smercheck carried the ball only five times for 27 yards, but two of those carries went for touchdowns as Rosholt completed a perfect run through the Central Wisconsin Conference-10 schedule with a 36-0 win over Marion/Tigerton on Friday night.
Jamie Betro led the Hornets with 108 yards on the ground and a touchdown on 11 carries. Nick Lemke added a big play on special teams with a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Rosholt finished the season 7-2 and 5-0 in the CWC-10 and now waits with the other playoffs teams in the state to find out its opponent for next week. The pairings will be announced today.
Amherst 50, Iola-Scandinavia 15
AMHERST – Falcons sophomore quarterback Garrett Groshek scored in just about every way possible in a blowout win over the Thunderbirds to clinch sole possession of second place in the Central Wisconsin Conference-8.
Groshek found the end zone on punt returns of 45 and 70 yards, hooked up with older brother Garth on a 34-yard scoring strike and found Wyatt Brooks on a 5-yard touchdown pass, and he ran in a 2-point converson for good measure.
Junior running back Connor Zblewski also had a massive night on the ground for Amherst, rolling up 200 yards on just 14 carries and scoring on runs of 1, 53 and 62 yards as the Falcons finished the regular season at 8-1.
Iola-Scandinavia quarterback Nick Wavruk completed 14 of 29 passes for 149 yards, and hooked up with Isaac Lashua on touchdown passes of 24 and 17 yards. The T-Birds wrapped up a 7-2 regular season.

WIAA State Tournament
MADISON – Freshman Emily Luetschwager of SPASH, the sixth seed, reached the quarterfinal in Division 1 before lossing to third-seeded Emily Kolbow of Hartland Arrowhead in straight sets.
Luetschwager will meet D.C. Everest junior Gabi Kitchell, who is seeded seventh, for the fourth time this season in a consolation match today.
SPASH’s doubles team of Samara Suomi and Maddie Tosseth saw their season come to an end with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Lane McLaughlin and Patty Newby of Divine Savior Holy Angels in the second round.
Meanwhile, Pacelli’s doubles team of Molly Wirtz and Nicole Schroeder pushed Eau Claire Regis’ Alecia Swenson and Gabby Brucker to the limit in their second Division 2 match, before falling 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.
