STEVENS POINT – Spencer Shirek edged out Kain Hoff at heavyweight as the Stevens Point Area Senior High wrestling team downed D.C. Everest 45-24 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Thursday night.

Kolten Pope picked up a win with just six seconds remaining in the final period. Fritz Schierl (126) and Nate Engle (160) picked up pins for the Panthers also.

Drew Stotmeister won via pin in under a minute for the Evergreens at 220 pounds.

MARION – Spencer Bembenek and Jarod Richter each scored 10 points, but the Hornets were no match for the Mustangs 1-2 inside punch of Aaron Hoffman and Cole Drefahl who had 20 points apiece in the CWC 10 matchup.

Rosholt got within three points late in the third quarter, before Marion pulled away again for the win.

“Their big guns came to play,” Rosholt coach Justin Ferg said. “We switched to a 2-3 zone in the second half and that slowed down Drefahl. He fouled out in the fourth quarter and we probably should have attacked him a little earlier.”
