The St. Philip boys’ basketball team scored early and often against host Camden-Frontier on Thursday, boosting the Tigers to a 74-49 victory in Southern Central Athletic Association action.
St. Philip built a 29-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as it improved to 2-0 on the season.
“We started out hot in the first quarter… The pressure defense worked great tonight,” said St. Philip head coach Dino English. “I was really happy with our defensive output.”
St. Philip was led in the victory by Alex Doyle with 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Also for the Tigers, Hunter Haley netted 14 points; Tyler Hubbard-Neil had 11 points and six rebounds; Dreyson English had eight points and five rebounds; Brayden Darr had eight points and Isaac Cloward had five assists and four steals.

(At) Bellevue 71, Litchfield 26: All 10 Bellevue players scored in the contest, led by Ethan Bloch with a career-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and seven steals. Also for the Broncos (1-1, 1-0 SCAA), Darrin Sommers had 10 points, four assists and four steals.
Athens 50, (at) Concord 45: Jonas Gerstenberger had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists to lead Athens in its Big Eight Conference opener. Also for the Indians (2-0, 1-0 Big Eight), Hayden Bowersox had nine points and nine rebounds, Jonah Harris had nine points and two rebounds and Austin Cole had eight rebounds and three assists.
(At) Climax-Scotts 78, Colon 68 (2 OT): Dallas Froberg scored a career-high 27 points — including 14 over two overtime periods — to lift Climax-Scotts to the victory in the SCAA opener for both schools. Also for the Panthers (1-1, 1-0 SCAA), Sam Eshius had 20 points, six rebounds and five steals, while Kyle Bowering had 10 points. Colon was led by Bradley Brittingham — who hit a 3-pointer with one-second remaining in regulation — with 24 points. Spencer Smolarz scoring the tying basket on a layup for the Magi (1-1, 0-1 SCAA) to force the second overtime.
