Prep roundup: Tech swimmers take down Apollo, 103-74

The St. Cloud Tech boys swimming and diving team rolled to a 103-74 win over St. Cloud Apollo Thursday night at Tech High School.

Tech’s Anthony Schwartz won the 200 freestyle (1:56.07) and the 500 freestyle (5:15.75) events. Teddy Olson won his first varsity event for the Tigers in the 200 IM (2:24.64).

Apollo’s Darien Stegner won the diving event with a score of 204.8. Tech improved to 7-2 on the season.

GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE 54,
HL-W-W 20

HOWARD LAKE – Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted senior Chris Cox defeated Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Kyle Polzin 11-0 in the 132-pound match, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers downed the Lakers.

ST. CLOUD TECH 47,
SAUK CENTRE/MELROSE 17

MELROSE – St. Cloud Tech downed Sauk Centre/Melrose in a nonconference dual.

Tyler Doering (1:55, 120 pounds), Jacob Johnson (3:02, 132) and Patrick Niehaus (2:17, 160) all had pins for the Tigers (6-10).

Dallas Hooper added a 6-1 decision at 106 pounds for Tech.

KIMBALL TRIANGULAR

KIMBALL – The Cubs went 2-0 at their own triangular with a 51-19 win over Osakis and a 43-22 win over B-B-E.

B-B-E defeated Osakis 33-30 in the other dual.

Kimball’s Blaine Tschida (120 pounds), Brady Mehr (138), Marcus Hamer (138), Austin Schlueter (195) and Travis Wills (182) all had pins against Osakis.

Markus Mehr (160), Austin Schiefelbein (220) and Tim Konz (heavyweight) all had pins against B-B-E. Kimball is 16-12 on the season in duals.

BECKER 32, LITTLE FALLS 29

BECKER – Lee Schmalz (113 pounds) and Eric Dudek (152) had pins for the Bulldogs in a Granite Ridge Conference dual win over the Flyers.

Trysten Ross had a pin for the Flyers at 195. Becker improves to 13-4.

HOLDINGFORD 47,
ROYALTON/UPSALA 26

UPSALA – It was the first time in 10 years that Upsala hosted a varsity wrestling meet in its gym, but that didn’t matter much as Royalton/Upsala fell to Holdingford at home.

Royalton-Upsala’s Mitch Lange picked up his 150th career win after earning a tech fall win over Kyle Kolstad of Holdingford in the 160-pound match.

Holdingford finished with seven pins.

Little Falls 127

LITTLE FALLS – Rachelle LeBlanc swept the events to win the all-around with a score of 36.6 in a nonconference loss to Brainerd.

LeBlanc won the vault (9.05), bars (9.025), beam (9.35) and floor (9.175) for the Flyers.

ST. CLOUD 2

The Slapshots (1-2) got a goal each from Kyle Kuchenmeister and Blake Steinbach. The Slapshots are host to Robbinsdale Feb. 5.
