MADISON – Sam Wiegert added to his school record shutout total making 16 saves and the Wausau West boys hockey team got scoring from six players in its 3-0 victory over Madison Edgewood on Saturday.

Alex Gessler, Zach Peterson and Justin Anderson tallied the Warriors’ goals and John Metzinger added two assists. It was a nice win for the Warriors, as Edgewood is unbeaten in the Badger South Conference.

“Good solid win. We played pretty well in all three zones,” West coach Pete Susens said.

West host Northland Pines on Tuesday.

Gunnar Bode scored at the 4 minute, 54 second mark of overtime after the Thunderbirds scored two goals by Jack Dern in the final 90 seconds of regulation to force the tie in a nonconference matchup at Marathon Park.

Logan Nelson had a pair of goals for East and an assist on the game-winning goal. Sam Romanski had two assists.

The two teams combined for four power-play goals.

Jacob Baxter had 41 saves for Lakeland, while Isaac Comfort stopped 25 shots. .

MERRILL – Dylan Heller scored a hat trick, and Nick Hoffmann had three assists as the Bluejays scored the nonconference win.

Harrison Davis had two goals for the Raiders.

Stephen Simon had 34 saves for Merrill, while Carter Jamieson stopped 29 shots for Medford.

CW Storm 2, St. Croix 2

BALDWIN – Kelly Knetter had a goal and an assist, and Lisa Fowle had 11 saves as the top-ranked Storm (17-0-1) tied the Fusion.

Sally Cranston had a goal and an assist for St. Croix and Kali Armagust had 29 saves for the Fusion.

Zelinski Duals

GREENFIELD – Mason Reinhardt (160), David Pophal (170), Ben Hintze (182), Alex Klug (195) and Tyler Schmidt (220) all went 5-0 to lead the Bluejays to the championship at the prestigious Zelinski Duals.

Pophal won four of his matched by pin in a combined 9 minutes, 8 seconds.

Merrill went 5-0 as a team to win the 16-team tournament. The Bluejays defeated Milwaukee Marquette 77-3, Waukesha South 56-16, Mukwonago 51-14, West Allis Central 51-17 and Pulaski 45-25 in the championship.

Ellsworth Duals

ELLSWORTH – Colin Baine and Joe Umlauf posted undefeated records on the day as Wausau West beat state-ranked Ellsworth (53-15) and Hudson (34-30), but nationally-ranked Apple Valley (Minn) scored a 43-19 win over the Warriors.

West faces Wausau East in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual on Thursday.

Central Wisconsin Conference Duals

Wittenberg-Birnamwood posted a 5-0 record on the day with wins over Amherst (60-18), Freedom (57-15), Manawa (67-12), Shiocton (46-23) and Weyauwega-Fremont (70-6)

Lumberjack Duals

Nick Diny went 5-0 at 126 pounds to lead the East to a fifth place finish at the Lumberjacks Duals.

Pat Wirtz (120) and Brook Whitehead (145) went 4-1 to help the Lumberjacks.

Auburndale, which finished seventh in the tournament, had three 5-0 wrestlers in Lane Schuld (126), Wyatt Weiler (145) and Trevin Oertel (182).

Round 2: Appleton North def. Three Lakes 74-6; Tomah def. Antigo 67-9; Wausau East def. Auburndale 39-27; Rhinelander def. La Crosse Logan 58-22.

Round 3: Tomah def. Appleton North 42-34; Antigo def. Three Lakes 45-15; La Crosse Logan def. Wausau East 40-37; Rhinelander def. Auburndale 48-27.
