Prep soccer: Jansen scores two goals as CWC cruises past Columbus

CWC 4, Columbus 1

At Columbus, the Crusaders used two goals from Luke Jansen to defeat the Cardinals 4-1 Tuesday in a nonconference showdown.

Going into the second half with a 1-1 tie, Jansen scored early to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead. John Dewar added a goal at the 55-minute mark to extend it, and Jansen added another one with 12 seconds left to help wrap up the win.

Cody Zonnefeld was the other to score a goal for CWC, knocking one in at the 4:50 mark.

“It was a very bizarre game where we had to overcome some adversity late in the first half when one of our players was sent off with a red card for dissent,” head coach Greg Zonnefeld said. “At that point the match was tied at 1, so we played 50-plus minutes one man down but were able to hold our composure and grab the victory. Our depth paid off in the heat, and we dominated possession and play throughout hte second half even with just 10 guys.”
