LITTLE FALLS – Jordan Maetche’s hat trick helped St. Cloud Cathedral shred Little Falls 5-1 in Granite Ridge Conference boys soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
Charlie Schuweiler and Andreas Almarza also scored for the Crusaders (9-2-3 overall) and Cathedral goalkeeper Phil Ruegemer had nine saves.
The Crusaders led 3-1 at halftime.
Jake Loukinen scored the Flyers’ goal and Michael Hanowski made seven saves for Little Falls.
Becker 2, St. John’s Prep 1
BECKER – Becker held off St. John’s Prep to win a Granite Ridge Conference game on their home pitch.
Senior goaltender Dana Slominski had eight saves in the victory. Sophomore Collin McDowell and senior Erik Tungland each had a goal. Senior Ho Yeon Park scored the Johnnies’ one goal.
WILLMAR 2, ST. CLOUD TECH 1
St. Cloud Tech’s Moulid Keynan scored for St. Cloud Tech but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell to Wilmar at home.
Willmar outshot the Tigers 18-10 and got goals from Nick McLouth and Juan Contreras. David Scharenbroch tallied 16 saves for St. Cloud.
Monticello 2, CHISAGO Lakes 1
MONTICELLO – Hunter Thompson had a goal, but Monticello defeated Chisago Lakes in Mississippi 8 Conference play.
BECKER 3, SAINT JOHN’S PREP 1
COLLEGEVILLE – Sophomore Anna Bender had 13 saves in goal, but St. John’s Prep fell to Becker in Granite Ridge Conference play.
Freshman Taylor Nydeen had the lone goal of the game for the Johnnies. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime, but Becker (5-8) came back strong with two goals in the second half. Mikki Berscheit had a pair of goals for the Bulldogs. Maddy Corey had the other.
Megan Dudek had 11 saves to pick up the win in net.
Zimmerman 2, Little Falls 1
ZIMMERMAN – Marissa Virnig scored the lone goal of the game for the Flyers in a Granite Ridge Conference loss.
ST. CLOUD TECH 2, WILLMAR 2 (OT)
WILLMAR – Down 1-0 at the half, St. Cloud Tech used a two-goal rally in the second to send the Central Lakes Conference contest into overtime as the Tigers tied the Cardinals on the road.
St. Cloud’s first goal came after junior Marren Pfannenstein scored early in second half. The cardinals answered with a second-half score of their own before junior Emily Dorn capped the game’s scoring with the Tigers’ second goal of the game.
St. Cloud Tech out shot Willmar 18-3 in the contest. Juniors Stephanie Thompson and Shelby Schneider each finished with a goal for Willmar.
SARTELL 1, SAUK RAPIDS 0
SAUK RAPIDS – A goal by Sartell’s Katie Stuttgen four minutes into the game proved to be the game-winner for the Sabres in a Central Lakes Conference win.
Olivia Stockinger and Ashley Benoit combined to make 11 saves for the Storm (4-8-1), who suffered their sixth one-goal loss of the season.
ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL 2, ALEXANDRIA 0
Senior Ellie Engel netted two scores for St. Cloud Cathedral to help the Crusaders clip Alexandria in nonconference play at Whitney Park.
Engel scored with 30 seconds to go in the first half and again with three minutes to go in the contest to put the game out of reach. Senior Annie Johnson assisted on each score. Senior goalie Mo Schroeder finished with six saves for the Crusaders (9-4-1).
The loss was the second of the season for Alexandria (11-2). The Cardinals only other loss was to Class AA St. Louis Park in both teams’ season opener.
ST. CLOUD AREA 9, WHITE BEAR LAKE 2
WHITE BEAR LAKE – David Neuman was a force for St. Cloud, scoring five goals in the team’s opening match of the season.
Adam Neuman added a pair goals to pad the lead for St. Cloud (1-0).
