Looming rain showers couldn’t deter the Roncalli softball team in its season opener as it defeated Two Rivers on Monday 13-3 in five innings at Vietnam Field in Two Rivers.

The game was moved to Two Rivers but Roncalli remained the home team.

The Jets held a narrow 3-2 lead entering the bottom of the fourth when Roncalli erupted to score six runs to put the game out of reach of the Raiders.

Katy Orth went 2-for-2, scored twice, walked twice and drove in three RBI to lead the Jets offense. Emily Jagemann (2-for-4) and Elizabeth Jilek (2-for-3) also had multiple hits for Roncalli. Orth and Jagemann each had a double for the lone extra-base-hits for either side.

For Two Rivers, Marissa Broehm paced the Raiders by going 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Tiffany Abts pitched the complete game for the Jets, allowing three runs — one earned — on four hits while striking out four and walking three. Brooke Shillcox took the loss for Two Rivers, surrendering nine runs — seven earned — on 10 hits while walking eight and recording one strikeout.

Roncalli hosts St. Mary Central today while Two Rivers returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Campbellsport.

Brillion 14, Manitowoc Lutheran 7

After scoring five runs in the top of the first, visiting Lutheran allowed 11 unanswered runs in the loss which was originally to be played in Manitowoc but moved to Brillion due to weather conditions.

Hannah Yagodinski went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI while teammate Kaitlin Radue was 1-for 4 with two RBI and one run. Also for the Lancers, Anna Gries was 1-for-3 with two runs and Arianna Neumeyer was 2-for-3 with three runs.

MacKayla Menges started for Lutheran and went four innings in the loss. She allowed five earned runs on one hit and 11 walks with five strikeouts while at the plate she went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Neumeyer pitched two innings of relief and allowed nine earned runs on five hits and eight walks with two strikeouts.
