FERGUS FALLS – St. Cloud Apollo edged Fergus Falls 39-34 in dramatic fashion Thursday night in a Central Lakes Conference wrestling meet.

Bryce Kirchner, ranked fourth in the state in Class 3A at 285, squared off against Fergus Falls’ Andrew Tysdal with the Eagles trailing 34-33. Kirchner put Tysdal to his back for a pin and sent the Eagles home with a win in their first match of the season.

Gabe River had an overtime 5-3 victory at 138 pounds for Apollo (1-0), and Brandon Karolus collected a pin at 152 for the Eagles.

ALEXANDRIA 32, SARTELL 32

ALEXANDRIA – The Cardinals won by criteria in the Central Lakes Conference showdown.

For Sartell, Jake Fernholz had a pin at 120 pounds and Abe Anderson had a pin at 170. The Sabres (0-1), were wrestling their first match of the season.

AITKIN 49, HOLDINGFORD 21

HOLDINGFORD – The Gobblers won the nonconference meet.

Holdingford got wins from Ryan Skoch at 113, Zach Scott at 132, Kyle Gerads at 170, Tony Kierstead at 182 and Nathan Brinker at 220.

PAYNESVILLE WINS 2

PAYNESVILLE – The Bulldogs rallied from deficits of 14-0 and 17-6 to beat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 45-20 in a nonconference meet. Paynesville then beat BOLD 49-13 in the double-dual.

Against BBE, Paynesville got wins from Damian Viessman at 132, Andrew Kerzman at 145, Devin Meagher at 152, Jacob Mages at 160, Jordan Karels at 170, Anthony Wendlandt at 182, Michael Ludwig at 195 and Mitchell Floura at 220.

BBE’s victories came from Spencer Amundson (106), Kaleb Voss (113), Joey Tensen (120),Adam Jaeger (126), Jonah Voss (138) and Ben Feuerhake (285).

Against BOLD, Paynesville got pins from Brandon Douglas (113), Devin Meagher (152), Wednlandt (182) and Ludwig (195).

ST. CLOUD TECH 110, ST. CLOUD APOLLO 60

Senior Ashton Schulte and senior Theo Pillsbury both finished first in multiple events in the Central Lakes Conference victory at Apollo.

Schulte finished first in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay. Pillsbury finished first in the 200 individual medley, the 100 breaststroke and the medley relay.

BRAINERD 112, SAUK RAPIDS 70

SAUK RAPIDS – Junior David Supinski and Senior Nick Goll both finished first in two individual events as Brainerd beat Sauk Rapids in a Central Lakes Conference meet.

Supinski finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.36 seconds) and 100 free (50.84). Goll finished first in the 200 free (1:56.35) and the 500 free (5:22.37) for the Warriors.

Sauk Rapids’ Matthew Bethke took first in diving with 224.85 points. The Storm’s 400 free relay team of Tristin Ironi, Jaiden Pick, Stephen Erickson and Josh Deering finished first in 3:59.76.

ROCORI 92, WILLMAR 91

COLD SPRING – Adam Astrup anchored the 400 free relay team that finished first (3:44.85), and decided the meet in the Spartans’ favor.

Sam Meyer and Codey Barby both had four first-place finishes for Rocori (1-0).

TECH BOYS TAKE 2ND

St. Cloud Tech’s boys were second in the St. Cloud Cathedral Invitational at Riverside Park.

The Tigers took second to Brainerd.

Mora’s girls also took first with Little Falls placing second.

No times were kept. Conditions were difficult.

Tech’s Cory Rouw took first and the Tigers’ Isaac Wiber was second. Little Falls’ Johnny Gottwalt was 10th.

Little Falls’ Maria Hauer took first. Mora’s Sadie Peterson was second. The Flyers’ Kaitlynn Geisenhof was fourth and Amelia Kresha was 10th.

Cathedral/Sartell’s Anna Lindell was eighth.

Boys team scores – 1. Brainerd; 2. St. Cloud Tech; 3. Alexandria; 4. Little Falls; 5. Mora; 6. St. Cloud Apollo; 7. Willmar; 8. St. Cloud Cathedral/Sartell.

Girls team scores – 1. Mora; 2. Little Falls; 3. Cathedral/Sartell; 4. Brainerd; 5. Alexandria; 6. Apollo; 7. Willmar; 8. Tech.

BRAINERD 136.9, ST. CLOUD APOLLO 131.9

BRAINERD – Brainerd senior Beth Etterman took home first-place honors in the all-around competition as the Warriors held off St. Cloud Apollo.

Etterman finished with a score of 36.08. Apollo junior Betty Grell placed second with a 34.475. Senior Katelyn Schneider placed third for the Eagles (0-1) with a 34.125.

Apollo will next host an eight-team invitational at noon Saturday at Apollo High School.

ALEXANDRIA 131.875, SAUK RAPIDS 120.75

ALEXANDRIA – Hannah Wendel won the all-around (36.725) for the host Cardinals. Jackie Braun finished second in the all-around (33.25) to lead SR (0-1).

SARTELL 135.5, FERGUS FALLS 121.625

SARTELL – Freshman Claire Boschee won the all-around (35.825) for the Sabres, who beat Fergus Falls in Central Lake Conference action.

Boschee finished with a score of 9.15 on the beam and 8.725 on the bars for the Sabres.

ST. CLOUD TECH 141.1, WILLMAR 134.1

WILLMAR – Junior Margaux Schmid won the all-around to lead the Tigers to a Central Lakes Conference win in their first meet of the season.

Schmid also won vault (9.25), beam (9.325) and tied for first on bars (9.1).
