SARTELL – The St. Cloud Tech girls tennis team cinched their 17th berth to the Class 2A state tennis tournament with authoritative victories over Brainerd and Monticello Friday night at Fitness Evolution.
Tech blanked Brainerd 7-0 in the semifinal match and followed up with a 6-1 win over Monticello.
A host of Tigers went 2-0 to propel them to the championship. Taylor Tarrolly (No. 1), Katelyn Tarrolly (No. 2) and Leah Wurm (No. 3) all went unbeaten on the singles side.
In doubles, the tandems of Lexie Portz/Jill Kedrowski (No. 1), Sam Eisenreich/Katie Williams (No. 2) and Sabrina Sturm/Steph Nardi at (No. 3) all went 2-0 for the the Tigers (18-4).
“The girls have been playing well at the right time,” Tech coach Paul Bates said.
The Tigers open the Class 2A state tournament on Oct. 22 at the University of Minnesota.
ST. MICHAEL – Kylie Loesch had 17 kills in St. Cloud Tech’s losses at the St. Michael-Albertville Invite.
Tech fell to Hopkins 25-20, 25-21 and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 25-22, 25-13.
Alisha Orcutt had 17 digs for the Tigers (7-13), who finish the tournament with three matches Saturday.
MILACA 104, ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL 80
MILACA – The Wolves’ Sarah Forker won the 50 freestyle (27.09 seconds) and the diving (195.05 points) to lead her team to the win.
Cathedral’s Morgan Gebhardt won the 200 freestyle (2:13.83) and the 500 freestyle (5:46.13).
