The Two Rivers, Mishicot and host Roncalli volleyball teams all were in action Saturday at the Roncalli Invite.
The Raiders finished the day 1-3, with the lone win coming against Mishicot 25-16, 22-25 and 15-13 to start the day. Two Rivers then lost to Roncalli (25-16, 25-17), St. Mary’s Springs (25-21, 25-18) and Southern Door (25-9, 25-11) in subsequent matches.
Gabby Heinen led the Raiders with a team-high 29 assists while Bailee and Kenzie Walesh each had four blocks to go along with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Bailee also added two aces.
Complete results for Roncalli and Mishicot were not provided to the Herald Times Reporter as of press deadline.
Mallory Dixon’s 91 assists helped pace Manitowoc Lincoln to a second-place finish with a 4-1 record.
The Ships won their pool via tiebreaker by defeating Oshkosh West 25-13, 25-13 and Xavier 25-15, 25-15 before falling to Hartland Arrowhead 22-25, 25-23 and 15-10.
Lincoln then defeated host Kaukauna 25-15, 25-21 to set up a rematch with Xavier in the championship, which didn’t go the Ships way as they were beaten 26-24, 26-24.
“We had some leads,” said Lincoln coach Mary Beth Dixon. “That’s the game of volleyball for you. We beat them earlier by 10 points in each game but we couldn’t close it out.”
Also having a big day for the Ships was Britney Youngchild, who led the team with 63 digs while teammate Alyssa Fischer added 35 digs and 25 kills of her own. Alyssa Grotegut (24 kills, 13 blocks) and Stephanie Winans (23 blocks, 16) kills would also make their presence felt throughout the tournament.
