Prep volleyball roundup: Ships take third at Sun Prairie

Manitowoc Lincoln finished third at the 12-team Sun Prairie Invitational held last Friday and Saturday.

The Ships overcame an 0-2 start on Day 1 with a 5-0 match through Day 2.

Lincoln handed tournament champion Sun Prairie its only loss of the weekend.

Britney Youngchild recorded 103 digs on the weekend while teammate Steph Winans added 44 blocks and 36 kills.

Mallory Dixon had a total of 166 assists across the seven matches.

The Ships return to action Thursday when they host Sheboygan South in the Fox River Classic Conference opener.

Late Thursday Sheboygan Falls Quad

Kiel went 0-3 as it fell to Sheboygan Falls 3-2, Waupun 3-0 and Plymouth 3-1.

Against Sheboygan Falls the Raiders were led by Alyssa Summers’ 18 assists and Madeline Dahmer’s 11 attack kills and 15 digs.

Kiel won Game 1 25-22 before dropping the next pair 25-17 and 25-16. They rebounded with a 25-20 win before falling in the decisive Game 5 15-12.

Facing Plymouth, Kiel had 15 assists from Summers and 19 digs from Mia Voland. The Raiders opened with a 25-20 win before falling by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-11.

Summers also had 11 assists against Waupun, which topped the Raiders 25-23, 25-11 and 25-9.

Late Aug. 27 Chilton 3, Kiel 2

After dropping the first two games by scores of 25-22 and 25-21 Kiel rallied to win the next two games 25-17 and 25-19 before falling in the decisive Game 5 15-12.

Mia Voland led host Kiel with 10 kills, 26 digs and eight set assists, Allison Reseburg had nine kills and Madeline Dahmer added eight kills and 12 digs.

Also for the Raiders, Alyssa Summers had 21 set assists, Cassie Schweitzer had eight solo blocks and Carolynn Kuske had 22 digs.
