Prep wrestling: Lincoln tops Sheboygan North

By

You can’t get much more evenly matched than Sheboygan North’s and Manitowoc’s wrestling teams were Thursday night.

After finishing 14 matches, the Golden Raiders and Ships sat tied at 37-37, forcing officials to begin going through tiebreakers to determine the winner.

Easier said than done.

Officials went through tiebreakers such as most matches won (seven each) most pins (two apiece) and most wins by major decision (one for each side), before reaching the eighth criteria — team that scored the first point in each match the most — which Manitowoc won 5-3.

Lincoln began the match leading as North forfeited the first three weight classes and dropped the first wrestled match of the night by major decision.

After losing via pin, the Ships posted back-to-back pins to take what seemed to be an insurmountable 34-12 lead.

But the Raiders responded with a pin, a major decision, two forfeits and a decision to grab a short-lived 37-34 lead.

Lincoln won the final match of the night, creating a 37-37 tie and bringing out the tiebreaker criteria.
