Oostburg native Nate Muckerheide has been hired as the new wrestling coach at Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
Muckerheide replaces Jack Youngchild, who stepped down after last season to pursue a career promotion.
A 2007 graduate of UW-Oshkosh, Muckerheide was the Ships’ JV Coach last season and currently works as an assistant football coach at Oostburg High School. No stranger to the sport of wrestling, Muckerheide was a WIAA state champion for the Flying Dutchmen. He also worked as an assistant wrestling coach at Lakeland College under Pete Rogers. Rogers is currently an assistant coach at Purdue University.
While at Lakeland under Rogers, Muckerheide helped lead the Muskies to a pair of NCAA Division III Top-30 finishes in 2009 and 2010. During the 2008-09 season Lakeland finished in 21st place at the NCAA Championships.
“Nate has a lot of experience working with a diverse group of student-athletes at the high school and collegiate levels, and we’re excited to have him lead our wrestling program,” athletic director John Johnson said.
The Ships start practice on Monday, Nov. 18 and compete in their first meet on Dec. 7 at Seymour.
