Ty Pelot and Scott Skoricka each took third place at 113 and 195 pounds, respectively, in Division 2 to lead the Two Rivers wrestling team at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
Pelot (45-1) started the day by defeating Oconto Falls’ Gunnar Leisner (34-6) via a 7-2 decision before pinning his third-place match opponent Ben Vosters of Wittenberg-Birnamwood in 1:40. Skornicka (41-9) meanwhile won both of matches via pin, first taking down Clintonville’s Jake Reiter (41-9) in 4:29 and Dan Dorner (37-16) of Luxemburg-Casco in 1:26.
Also medaling for the Raiders was Paul Bianchi (49-4), coming in fifth at 106. He lost his first match by a narrow 4-2 decision to Jason Clapper (41-9) of Lodi before rebounding in the fifth-place match by defeating Adams-Friendship’s Trenton McManus (45-6) by decision (7-2).
Rounding out Division 2 was Kiel, which was led by Jay Wallace and Matt Halverson, with Wallace (145) taking fourth while Halverson (285) was fifth.
Wallace (38-9) pinned Elliot Sparby (46-12) of Mosinee in 4:19 before falling in the third-place match by a 8-5 decision to Baldwin-Woodville’s Tyler Weyer (44-1). Halverson (33-9), meanwhile, was pinned in his first match by Gary Cary (14-1) of Big Foot-Wms. Bay in 1:43 before returning the favor to Melrose-Mind.-G.E.T.’s Jameson Kaiser (29-9) in 50 seconds.
In Division 3, Reedsville’s Grant Wedepohl (152) was fifth while teammate Colby Kasten (138) was sixth. Wedepohl (42-8) lost his first match by a 7-5 decision to Ozaukee’s Ethan Brouillette (19-4) before winning the fifth-place match over Cody Willis (40-8) of Weston-Ithica by decision (5-1).
