Playoff advancement was quick and easy for the Roberson soccer team Wednesday night.
With an emphasis on quick.
Alex Lewis thumped home the first goal of a 6-0 win over visiting Mooresville just eight seconds into the third-round game at Ensley Stadium.
Appalachian State recruit Austin Stamey added two goals, while Ben Chapel, Jonah Hodes and Grant Hiriak had one apiece for the undefeated Rams (24-0-2).
Roberson advances to play at undefeated Charlotte Providence (24-0-0) in Saturday’s 4-A Western Regional semifinals.
Providence is ranked No. 1 in this week’s N.C. Soccer Coaches Association 4-A rankings, while the Rams are fourth.
“They’re 24-0, so they must be pretty darn good,” Roberson coach Rob Wilcher said with a grin.
“We had a little bit of a lull after the first goal tonight. But all in all, it was a good night for us. This team is used to traveling so (Saturday) won’t be anything new for us.”
Hodes, Lewis and Conner Cowan also had assists for the Mountain Athletic Conference 4-A champions, who outshot Mooresville, 31-9.
Stamey now has a team-high 33 goals this fall.
Roberson senior goalkeeper Kevin Rhash made four saves to preserve his 15th shutout of the season. Backup Alex Swaney added one save.
The Rams have only allowed 10 goals and are undefeated this late in a season for the first time since 2002.
