Rams meet Indians, Colts will face Lancers in the semifinals


It will be Southern Regional against Toms River South and Christian Brothers Academy against St. John Vianney in today’s Shore Conference Tournament semifinals in boys volleyball at Southern.

The top-seeded Rams of Southern beat No. 8 Colts Neck 2-0 in the quarterfinals. In other quarterfinals, No. 3 St. John Vianney beat Wall 25-23 in the final game to advance, No. 4 Toms River South topped No. 5 Red Bank Catholic 2-0 and No. 2 CBA beat No. 7 Central 2-0.

For Southern (29-4), Mike Gesicki finished with three kills and six blocks. Luke King added 14 assists and two blocks. Brandon Lee blasted home seven kills. Kyle Ficken added six kills and Jake Necamp hustled to seven digs.

Mike Lamb (four kills, two blocks) and Jack Lind (four kills, two digs) led the Cougars (10-11).

For St. John Vianney’s Lancers (13-6), Danny Bruchez notched six kills, two blocks and three digs. Tom Corbisiero added two kills and scrapped for 19 digs. Chris Lionette contributed two blocks, 33 assists and four digs. Bryan Walsh added eight kills and 11 digs.

Wall’s Ryan Donahue finished with 18 kills and eight digs for the Crimson Knights (15-5). Mike Smith added two kills, two blocks, 27 assists and five digs. Brady Donahue notched six kills, two blocks and five digs.

For Toms River South (17-4), Joe Esposito led the way with 29 assists and two aces. Scott Stueber added eight kills and two blocks. Alek Purpuro contributed nine kills. Brian Sutera, Trevor Signorino and Josh Swindell added five, four and three kills, respectively.

Ryan Farley paced the Caseys (13-8) with 17 assists and three digs. Mac Feaster added four kills and four digs. Kevin Brennan had three kills and seven digs. Jimmy Glover contributed 10 digs. J.P. Legrottaglie added six kills and three aces.

For CBA (17-7), John Gatens notched 14 kills, two aces and three digs. Dan Andree added 10 kills and four blocks. Doug Dzema contributed 29 assists, two blocks and three aces.

For Central (9-7), Bryan Jones finished with eight assists. Ambrose Powell added six kills and two digs. Casey Raso had two aces, four kills and six digs. Chris Penta added three digs.
