ROCHESTER, N.Y.- Despite losing its head coach to retirement and star running back to graduation last year, defending state champion Randolph routed Red Jacket 49-0 in the Class D Far West Regional.
Randolph struck on its first possession, courtesy of a Devyn Nelson two-yard touchdown run. With 2:06 left in the first quarter, Randolph quarterback Mitch Maycock linked up with receiver Bryce Morrison for a 23-yard touchdown to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead.
Randolph running back Chris Doubek joined the party in the second quarter. He ran for a three-yard touchdown and followed it up with a highlight-reel 54-yard run late in the first half.
Doubek’s 112 yards in the first half put him over 2,000 rushing yards for the year.
Randolph’s defense held Red Jacket to -11 yards in the first half as the Cardinals led 28-0 at halftime.
On Randolph’s first possession of the second half, Maycock connected with Morrison again, this time for an 18-yard score.
Randolph scored twice more in the second half, on a Maycock nine-yard touchdown run and a Derek Young four-yard touchdown run.
Doubek ran for 124 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Maycock completed 7 for 11 for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Randolph had 479 total yards and 23 first downs. The Red Jackets had 8 total yards and three first downs.
With the win, Randolph will once again play at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester. The game will be next Friday at 5 p.m. for the Class D State Semifinal.
