Randolph Southern defeated Southside 3-2 Tuesday in a boys tennis match in Muncie.
Southside’s Skyler Collins (1-12) picked up his first win of the season, with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles. Southside’s other victory came by default at No. 2 doubles.
“Skyler played very, very steady tonight, especially in the first set,” Southside coach Ernie Davis said. “He played steady throughout the match. It got a little tight in the second set, but overall he played very steady.”
* Delta sweeps Jay County: No. 8 Delta swept Jay County 5-0. The Eagles’ Alec St. John won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, a feat the Eagles accomplished at three positions in the lineup.
Jordan Fenwick won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Jay Robillard and Nick Wilson didn’t concede a game at No. 1 doubles.
“We’ve really played well from start to finish throughout the season,” Delta coach Tim Cleland said. “We have a veteran team and the kids are highly motivated. And I think they’ve got their sights set on some big goals. So, we’ve been good. Tonight was a match where we were clearly the better team, but I still liked it.”
Delta (13-1) is undefeated in Hoosier Heritage Conference play with two conference matches remaining. The Eagles play Pendleton Heights today and Mt. Vernon on Monday.
