MONROE — Behind 17 points apiece from seniors Thomasina Minor and Victoria Wilson, the Rayville Lady Hornets defeated the Baker Lady Buffs 71-38 in the LHSAA Class 3A State Championship Game Thursday night in Monroe.
Arielle Richardson also had 11 points for Rayville (26-5). Baker (25-6) was led by Anitra Whitifield, who finished with 16 points, and Eugenea James added 10 points for the Lady Buffs.
Capturing the school’s first state championship in girls basketball, the Lady Hornets trailed for only the first minute of the game before going on a 15-5 run to close out the quarter. Rayville’s lead grew for the duration of the game, ballooning to a 48-18 advantage after the Lady Hornets outscored the Lady Buffs 20-4 in the third quarter.
The lead reached 38 points in the final quarter before the partisan home crowd.
