Eagleville and Middle Tennessee Christian School had an eight-day break between games following the District 9-A championship.

Tonight, the two Class A boys programs step back on the court along with five other area squads for the region quarterfinals.

Eagleville (14-15) hosts Jo Byrns (17-11). MTCS (19-8) hosts McEwen (14-15). All region quarterfinals begin at 7 p.m.

“I would rather keep playing,” MTCS boys coach Jason Piercy said of the break. “That’s what you’d rather do because you want to keep playing.

“But it’s been OK. We’ve gone through some sickness this week. It was a good week to have off. But mentally, you would rather keep playing.”

In Region 4-AAA, Lawrence County (15-11) plays at District 7-AAA champion Blackman (26-0), Oakland (17-10) plays at Franklin County (10-21), La Vergne (18-11) plays at District 8-AAA champion Lincoln County (19-11) and Tullahoma (15-12) is at Siegel (25-4).

Cannon County (13-17) plays at Bledsoe County (23-6) in Region 4-AA.

Eagleville coach Joey Reed echoed Piercy’s concerns. His Eagles are playing its best basketball at this point in the season. But, a break hasn’t been a bad thing for the Eagles, who had multiple players with injuries after the district tournament.

Andrew Jernigan (mouth), Jason Hawks (sternum) and John Posada (hip) all had injuries. Posada was the most serious. He will play tonight, but won’t be at 100 percent. The rest should be.

“(The break) worked out well for us,” Reed said. “I can’t say it worked out well for sure, though, until after the game if we win. But for healthy reasons, the break was good for us.”
