Athletic achievement: He led the Hawks to a 17-1 record entering their regular-season game against Woonsocket (R.I.), scheduled for May 25. King owned a 7-0 record with a 0.30 ERA and 67 strikeouts against just seven walks in 47 innings-pitched through 18 games. Also an outfielder, King batted .469 with 18 RBI, recording a .563 on-base percentage and a .592 slugging percentage. He helped lead Bishop Hendricken to the 2012 Division I state championship as a junior.
Academic excellence: King has maintained a 3.42 GPA.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of his church, the Pan-Mass Challenge charity race and the Rhode Island Family Shelter.
“I would love him on my team,” said Rob Malo, head coach of rival Cranston (R.I.) West. “On the field, he is a competitor, a workhorse, a leader and respectful to the opposing team and coaches. What impressed me most from a skill-set standpoint was how effortlessly he pitched and how much of an athlete he is. He plays right field very well, and he can really swing the stick.”
THE FUTURE: King has signed with Boston College.
