RHS' Neal pitches shutout in debut


Sophomore Justin Neal pitched a two-hit shutout in his varsity debut to lead Riverdale (7-2) to a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Bartlett (9-1) on Friday in Columbia. Neal struck out eight batters.

Garrett Lee’s single drove in pinch runner Weston Shaver with two outs in the fifth inning for the game’s lone run.


Oakland 10, Lebanon 5

Penn Moore and Justin Wilson had two hits each as Oakland had 10 hits as a team in the Wilson County Invitational.

Tyler Gilbert pitched all seven innings for the win.

Oakland 7, CPA 6

Nolan Pearson collected the win for the Patriots. Penn Moore got the save. Alex Ward and Moore each had two hits.

Eagleville 9, Spring Hill 8

Clayton Kennedy and Darin Knox each collected two hits for the Eagles. Christian Hill drove in three runs and Britt Roberts had two RBIs for the Eagles.

La Vergne 10, McGavock 4

Guner Reynolds continued his hot start to the season, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Christian Acklin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Shane Dial was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

David Mayberry picked up the win in relief.

Christian Rivera and Joel Romero each scored for the Wolverines. Goalkeeper Juvie Hernandez collected the shutout.

Oakland 4, Father Ryan 1

Brent Nevar and John Ingrum scored two goals apiece for the Patriots.

Abby Sargent homered and drove in the winning run in the win over CA in the MTSCA tournament. Kayli Brandstetter doubled in a run to tie the game. Hannah McCravy picked up the win.

Siegel 3, Tullahoma 2

Siegel improved to 9-5 with the two wins. Newsome collected the win against the Lady Falcons. Savannah Hughes and Newsome each had RBI singles for the Lady Stars, who finished with eight hits.

Baylie Leyhew singled in Newsome for the winning run after Newsome had doubled in Hughes to tie it. Cede Loftis picked up the win.



Central Magnet 6, Friendship Christian 3

Central Magnet’s Mason Grear (8-1), Austin Yoders (8-2), Greyson Gore (8-0) and Angus Stewart (8-5) all collected singles wins. Grear and Cole Kelley (8-5) won at No. 1 doubles and Stewart and Chetan Chandrashekar (8-6) won at No. 3 doubles.

Central Magnet’s Ellis Bouldin (8-0), Jordan Berrios (8-3), Laurel Tipps (8-0), Katie Green (8-1), Jessica Fusco (8-0) and Emily Oppmann (8-1) all collected singles wins. Bouldin and Green (8-2) won at No. 1 doubles; Berrios and Tipps (8-0) won at No. 2 doubles; and Fusco and Hope Lehmann (8-2) won at No. 3 doubles.

Middle School Golf

Stewarts Creek boys, Oakland girls win jamboree

Stewarts Creek’s boys and Oakland’s girls won the inaugural Rutherford County Middle School Golf Jamboree held a week ago at Champions Run Golf Course in Rockvale.

Stewarts Creek’s boys won the nine-hole tournament with a 199. Siegel was second with 204. Stewarts Creek’s Shelden Barina was low medalist with a 39. Teammate Branson Beech had a 44. Siegel’s Braxton McGill and Harris Adcock scored 45 and 48 respectively.

Oakland won the girls with a 98. Christiana was second with a 105. Oakland Middle’s Jessie Eaton was low medalist with a 46, followed by Christiana’s Caitlin Davis (47), Oakland’s Emma Rhea Tenpenny (47), and Whitworth-Buchanan’s Alyssa Everhart (52).

The jamboree had 96 golfers from 11 Rutherford County middle schools. The tournament was preceded by a rules clinic put on by Larry Wilkerson, Allen Richardson, Larry Adamson, Tracy Parsons and David Head.
