Ripon's Long earns spot in D2 state field

East Troy Sectional (Wed): Ripon senior Ryan Long qualified for the state meet after winning his first match at No. 1 singles on Wednesday.

Long (12-5) finished fourth overall at the sectional meet, but will head to Madison for the state meet.

The Tigers finished third overall in the sectional, edging out McFarland for the position by one point.

J.J. Grinde led the way for Ripon with a second-place finish at No, 4 singles, while Marshall Bauman was third at No. 3 singles. Lincoln Wurtz also qualified for sectionals at No. 2 singles and placed fourth.

All four singles players for Ripon were seniors and all four posted at least 12 wins on the season.

The Tigers’ No. 3 doubles team of sophomores Bjorn Haugel and Riley Haas also made it to sectionals, but lost both of its matches to place fourth.
