Rogers lifts Blue Devils to win


Senior guard Connor Rogers made a jumper with 2:05 left to give Shore Regional the lead for good as the No. 2 ranked Blue Devils held off Monmouth Regional, 61-56, in a Shore Conference Class A Central game on Monday night.

Rogers’ jumper gave Shore a 57-56 lead. Monmouth’s Daniel Curtis (four points) had a chance to give the Falcons (5-11, 3-8) the lead with 54.8 seconds left but he missed two free throws.

Shore then scored the final four points of the game. First, junior guard Dan Pillari (19 points) made both ends of a one-and-one for a 59-56 lead with 18.2 left. Monmouth called timeout with 14.7 left but Shore senior forward Tyler Vivian stole the ball and was fouled with 11.4 left. Vivian (seven points) made both free throws to finish off the scoring.

Shore (14-2, 10-1) went 18-for-18 from the line for the game, including 12-for-12 in the second half. Sophomore forward Jack Byrne added 14 points and Rogers finished with seven points.

Monmouth sophomore Eddie Hendrex finished with a game-high 20 points, freshman Nyrhique Smith added 13 points and sophomore Kyle Bradshaw supplied 10 points.

RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN 76, RARITAN 68: Junior forward Jack Herrmann scored 20 of his career-high 41 points in the second half as he led the Bulldogs (6-11, 5-6) past the Rockets (3-12, 1-10) in a Class A Central game. Freshman Brendan Barry went 4-for-5 from 3-point range and finished with 14 points.

Raritan senior Paul Coladonato finished with a team-high 19 points and senior Jordan Joaquin added 18 points.

WALL 52, NEPTUNE 49: Brandon Barcas converted two free throws with 30 seconds left leading the Crimson Knights (12-6) over the Scarlet Fliers (7-8) in a Class B North game. Kevin Waters scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the second half for the Crimson Knights.

Shakeem Richardson scored seven of his 13 points in the first half for the Scarlet Fliers.

KEANSBURG 54, KEYPORT 51: Dan Markulin scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and Kason Preston added 17 points as the Titans (9-6, 7-4) defeated the Red Raiders (11-5, 7-4) in a Class B Central game.

Keyport’s Kevin Walsh had a team-high 17 points and Alex Thomson added 16 points.

LONG BRANCH 52, RED BANK 44: Dwight Clark scored six of his game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter and Terrel Cox added 10 points as the Green Wave (9-6, 8-2) defeated the Bucs (3-13, 2-7) in a Class B North game.

Red Bank’s Liam Smith had a team-high 13 points and Justin Gilson had 11 points.

OCEAN 53, FREEHOLD 40: Eric Musto scored eight of his team-high 14 points in the first half leading the Spartans (8-7, 5-5) over the Colonials (3-14, 2-8) in a Class B North game.

Tyree Wilson scored six of his 10 points in the third quarter for the Colonials.

MANALAPAN 59, MIDD. SOUTH 40: Senior guard Anthony Firkser scored 10 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter and senior guard Michael Pyzik added 11 points as the Braves (10-6, 7-4) defeated the Eagles (9-9, 3-8) in a Class A North game.

Middletown South senior center Mike Diorio had a team-high 16 points and junior guard Matthew Gray added 11 points.

MIDD. NORTH 68, FREEHOLD TWP 63: Cody Thompson scored 17 of his team-high 31 points in the second half leading the Lions (9-9) over the Patriots (9-8) in a Class A North game.

John Horrigan had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Patriots.
