The Roncalli girls soccer team fell to Kimberly but defeated Fox Valley Lutheran en route to a third-place finish at the Ashwaubenon Quadrangular on Saturday.
The In their second game of the day, Roncalli played disciplined defense under the direction of Lidia Zurcher and later Andrea Vaca too keep Fox Valley Lutheran to three goals while Lauren Clark had a hat trick for the Jets, who also added a breakaway goal from Isobel Dupor.
“By this time last year we were on our 11th game, as of tonight we only played five so far,” Roncalli coach Guido Lenaerts said in an email after the game, alluding to the Jets’ recent struggles. “We were stuck (practicing) indoors … where a pass to a teammate was only five-eight meters, (then) all off a sudden we find ourselves playing outdoors where the five-meter pass becomes 10-20 meters. So another adjustment was needed in a hurry, during games, without being able to practice.”
Final scores from the games and additional information were not provided to the Herald Times Reporter as of press deadline.
Roncalli next will be on the road to face defending Olympian Conference champion Sturgeon Bay on Monday at 6 p.m.
