Roundup: CVC volleyball pounds Selma


Lindsey Calvin made eight aces to lead the Central Valley Christian volleyball team past Selma in a Central Sequoia League match.

CVC won the match 25-8, 25-9 and 22-4 to improve to 3-0 in league play and 20-3 overall.

Calvin also made seven kills, as did Taylor Van Den Berg. Veronica Nederend led the team with nine kills. Sky Griffin made 12 assists and Katelyn Vander Tulg made 10.

Exeter 4, Kingsburg 1: Jacque Hutcheson made34 assists, four kills and 19 digs to lead the Monarchs past the Vikings 25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21 in a CSL match in Exeter.

Amanda Acosta made 24 digs, 13 kills and two aces for Exeter (14-7, 3-1). Olivia Harden made 11 kills and one block.

Redwood 3, Hanford 0: Chandler McKean made seven aces, eight kills and four digs to lead the Rangers in a WYL sweep of the Bullpups, 25-6, 25-8, 25-7.

Rebekah Cervantes made five kills, nine aces and five digs for Redwood (21-4, 5-2). Ciara Wong made 23 assists, three aces and three digs. Kennedy Hammond made four kills and three blocks.

Woodlake 3, Sierra Pacific 0: The Tigers (15-4, 4-0) remained perfect in the East Sequoia League with a win over the Golden Bears.

Melissa Samaniego had six kills, eight blocks and two aces, KiAnna Cunningham had eight kills and seven blocks, and Regina Ramirez had six kills.

Orosi 3, Kings Christian 1: The Cardinals improved to 6-1 in the East Sierra League and 12-3 overall with their victory.

Marisol Alvarez had 26 assists, Amy Ahuelican had 17 kills and Brianna Gonzlaez added eight kills.

Boys Water Polo

Redwood 17, Hanford 10: The Rangers defeated the Bullpups in a West Yosemite League match.

Matt Bravante led the way with six kills, and Houston King and Sam Peckinpah each added three goals. Goalkeepers Brennan Miller and James Petree combined for 11 saves.

Golden West 19, Mt. Whitney 13: Robert Green scored eight goals and the Trailblazers defeated the Pioneers in a WYL match.

Zach Spade added four goals, Jake Goforth and Logan Collins each scored two goals, and Seth Nordell, Sawyer Nordell and Spencer Johnson each had one goal for the Trailblazers (12-4, 5-2). Goalkeeper Hayden Niederreiter had 11 saves.

Jack Felsted had five goals for Mt. Whitney.

Girls Water Polo

Hanford 15, Redwood 6: The Rangers fell to the Bullpups in a West Yosemite League match.

Bailey Phelps scored two goals to lead Redwood. Elyssa Spatafore scored four goals to lead Hanford.

Mt. Whitney 10, Golden West 5: Morgen Heath scored four goals to lead the Pioneers past the Trailblazers in a WYL game.

Bailey Mena scored twice for Mt. Whitney (5-2 in WYL). Robin Larsen, Kayla Witte, Marissa Marquez, and Rebecca Patterson each scored one goal. Haleigh Powell made 10 saves.

Girls Tennis

Tulare Union 5, Tulare Western 4: The Redskins secured a second-place finish in the East Yosemite League with a win over the Mustangs.

Radhika Shah, Lisette Rodriguez and Nikita Sama won their singles matches for Tulare Union (13-3, 8-2). Shah and Erica Rodriguez won at No. 1 doubles, and Carolina Herrera and Merysa Schultz won at No. 3 doubles.

Tulare Western’s Chelsea Bell, Katarina Alvarado and Caitlyn Wells won their singles matches. Leshayia Meados and Kassie Reynolds teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles.

Delano 6, Mission Oak 2: The Hawks lost to the Tigers in their final EYL match of the season.

Mission Oak picked up wins from Jackie Medina at No. 4 singles, and from Brianna Machado and Alli Castillo-Nunez at No. 2 doubles. It was Medina’s first singles win of the EYL season.
