Oakland struck early on Vanderbilt signee Hayden Stone to defeat Columbia Central 3-2 at Mack Hawks Field on Tuesday to open the season.

The Patriots (1-0) got two runs in the first inning with Sam Douglas and Peter Newman driving in the two runs.

Erik Eilers pitched 5 2/3 innings to collect the win. Newman pitch the final 1 1/3 and didn’t allow a base runner.

Eilers finished with three strikeouts, and allowed five hits. Rhett Stacey had two hits for the Patriots, who had five hits off the Lions.

MTCS 18, Aaron Acad. 0

Peyton Buckner pitched a five-inning perfect game to open the season for the Cougars (1-0).

Buckner struck out seven in the game.

Philip Bonavi had two hits, including a double. Cumberland signee Kyle Howard had two hits, scored two runs and drove in three runs. Caleb Gibson had a double and drove in three runs. Austin Melton had two runs on two hits. Justin Winn also scored two runs on two hits.

Central Magnet 5, Cascade 3

Austin Worley (1-0) picked up the season-opening win by allowing three runs and striking out four in four innings. He also went 2-for-3 from the plate. Michael Zipay struck out two batters with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to get the save.

Franklin 3, Riverdale 1

Memphis signee Trevor Sutton went 2-for-2 with a double and a solo home run for the Warriors (0-1).

Vanderbilt commitment Collin Snider (0-1) took the loss despite striking out eight and giving up just two runs on two hits.

Nick Hutchins also hit a solo home run for Franklin.

Boys Soccer

Central Magnet 12, Lancaster Chr. 0

Ten different people scored for the Tigers (1-0) in their season opener at Richard Siegel Park.

Bennett Fouts and Zavior Phillips had two goals each for Central Magnet. Reed Henderson, Spencer Beckman, Zach Kelly, Max Finley, Jeremiah Petty, Ryan Cornelison, Luke Duross and Ben Meyer also scored goals.

MTCS 2, Forrest 0

Matthew Holley and Carson Callahan each scored for the Cougars.

Smyrna 6, Summit 0

Derek Knotts had a goal and three assists to lead the Bulldogs (1-0). Cameron Kerper added a goal and an assist. Daniel Snyder, Ben Loveless, Chris Villareal and Day Ler Say all scored for Smyrna. Devon Kucker had an assist. Andy Mendez had one save and Josh Perkins recorded three saves for Smyrna.

Centennial 1, La Vergne 0

Centennial scored in the 27th minute for the game’s lone goal.


Smyrna 7, Beech 3

Makenzie Prince picked up the win, striking out, while walking six. Veronica Westfall went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

MTCS 12, Central Magnet 1

Abby Sweeney hit two home runs and drove in three for the Lady Cougars. Devan Welker had a triple and three RBIs. Claire Patton (1-0) picked up the win.



Siegel 5, MTCS 2

Siegel’s Taylor Graalman, Mohamned Al Zubaidi, Andrew Stem and Aaron Biddix all picked up singles wins. Al Zubaidi and Stem won at No. 2 doubles. MTCS’ Kip Kahler won at No. 2 singles for the Cougars. Mark Claiborne and Kahler won at No. 1 doubles.

Siegel 6, MTCS 1

Abigail Jones, Lexie Greene, Katie White and Haley Nance all won singles matches for Siegel. The doubles teams of Connelly Bossong and Jones along with Greene and White also won for the Lady Stars.

Chandler Adams won at No. 1 singles over Bossong for MTCS.
