The Salinas High girls tennis team clinched the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division title Tuesday afternoon by defeating Monterey 7-0.
With the win, Salinas finished divisional play 9-1.
Rachel Krueger, Alissa Loftus, Ansley Grover and Tanvi Gambhir all won their singles matches for the victorious Cowboys.
In doubles play, the teams of Jill Zimmerman and Lauren Mocettini, Ruxandra Dane and Lindsey Teresa, and Hallie Yee/Olivia Arrendondo all prevailed.
Salinas wasn’t the only girls tennis team to clinch a team championship Tuesday, as Pajaro Valley defeated Gilroy 5-2 to win the Pacific Division title. It’s the Watsonville school’s first title in the sport. Carmel also clinched the MTAL title on Tuesday.
Salinas returns to action Tuesday in the MBL postseason tournament.
Carmel 7, Pacific Grove 0: At Carmel, the Padres defeated their rivals to win the MTAL title.
Megan Scannell, J.J. Joung, Lexi Snyder and Gabrielle Garza all won in singles play for the Padres.

Notre Dame 6, Monte Vista Christian 1: At Notre Dame, the Spirits nearly picked up the shutout against the Mustangs in the teams’ regular-season finale.
Notre Dame’s Kate Chilton, Theresia Alba and Mariah O’Grady each won their singles contests.
Notre Dame will next play in the MBL postseason tournament on Monday.

Christopher 4, North Salinas 3: At North Salinas, the Cougars dominated in singles play in their win over the Vikings.
North Salinas finishes 7-3 overall, 5-5 in league.
The Vikings will play in next week’s postseason tournament.

CCS championship meet: Santa Catalina’s Chloe Corriveau shot a 70 and finished in second place in the championship tournament at Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel.
As a team, Santa Catalina finished 11th overall.
Michelle Xie, the 2013 First Tee Open junior champion from Palo Alto, won the individual title with a 69.
Monte Vista Christian’s Jessica Fore shot an 81 to finish tied for 29th.
Pacific Grove’s Lauren Molin, shot an 86. Santa Catalina’s Kiley Gibbs shot an 85. Harbor’s Alisa Jin shot a 97.
Girls water polo
Santa Catalina 9, Salinas 4: At Santa Catalina, the Cougars downed the Cowboys in a non-divisional contest.
Santa Catalina’s Allie Loomis had four goals to lead all scorers. Chloe Barney scored twice, while Lauren Redfern, A.J. Diakon and Colleen Boensel each scored once.
Salinas’ Emily Rindermann tallied two goals, Lindsay Trayford had a goal and Jordann White scored a goal.
Stevenson 8, Scotts Valley 7 (OT): At Stevenson, the Pirates needed extra time to defeat the visiting Falcons.
Jessie Jones led Stevenson with three goals.
Stevenson wraps up the regular season Thursday against Gilroy.
Santa Catalina 3, Pacific Grove 0: At Santa Catalina, the Cougars swept past the Breakers 25-9, 25-8, 25-16.
Sara Franks had five kills and four digs, and Rene Kausin had seven digs and three service aces for Santa Catalina (17-3, 9-2 MTAL).
The Cougars travel to Stevenson today.
Carmel 3, Gonzales 1: At Carmel, the Padres remained at the top of the MTAL standings with a four-set win over the Spartans.
Deja McCrimmon had four kills and three blocks, Ruby Perez had four kills and two blocks and Ali Lombardi had 12 assists.
Carmel plays King City for first place in the MTAL on Thursday.
Gonzales plays Anzar today.
King City 3, Soledad 1: At Soledad, the Mustangs stayed in first in the MTAL with a 25-19, 19-25, 25-16, 25-11 win over the Aztecs.
Zeni Silva had 16 kills, setter Samantha Howard had 38 assists and Morgan Kelley had 18 digs for the Mustangs.
Soledad’s Jessenia Chavez had eight kills, four blocks and three service aces, and Veisina Sale tallied 22 assists and four service aces.
King City plays host to Carmel on Thursday. Soledad takes on Pacific Grove today.
Boys water polo
Monterey 15, Palma 5: The Chieftains went to 15-5 overall and 11-1 in league with the loss. Parker Fisher and Samuel Givens had two goals each and Nicholas Kimes had one for Palma.
Notre Dame 6, York 2: At York, the Spirits pulled ahead of the Falcons in both halves.
Notre Dame posted three goals to York’s one in the first and the second.
For the Spirits, Delaney Morris-Riley scored four goals while Elizabeth Abluton and Karina Goodwin had one goal and one assist each.
Audrey Mustoe and Emma Cushing scored for the Falcons (0-11-0).
Notre Dame (3-6-2) hosts Christopher Friday at Palma.
