Roselle (3-4) scored 20 first-quarter points and jumped out to a 27-0 lead early in the second quarter en route to a 27-19 high school football victory over Somerville on Friday night.

Somerville (0-8) scored 19 unanswered points but couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

Keyshawn Newton ran for a 43 yard touchdown run late in the second quarter and he added two more touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, both from two yards out, as he rushed for 149 yards on 20 carries in the losing effort for the Pioneers.

Belvidere 17, Bound Brook 0: After falling behind 14-0 at the half Bound Brook (1-7) put up a better defensive effort in the second half, holding Belvidere (3-5) to just a third quarter field goal but couldn’t muster any points as they dropped their sixth straight game since a season opening win over Manville.

Brearley 22, Manville 18: Trailing 7-6 entering the fourth quarter, Manville (0-8) twice took the lead in the fourth quarter with touchdowns but both times saw Brearley (4-4) respond with scores as the Mustangs dropped a heartbreaker.

Anthony Zuhone gave Manville a 6-0 halftime lead with an 18 yard rushing touchdown on a naked bootleg with 2:40 left in the second quarter.

Max Miller 13 yard rushing touchdown with 11:52 left in the fourth quarter gave the Mustangs a 12-7 lead.

Brearley responded two drives later to go ahead 15-7.

Manville responded with 51 seconds remaining when Zuhone hit Miller for a 30 yard touchdown pass.

The ultimate dagger for Manville came when Brearley’s Andrew Casamento fired a 46 yard touchdown pass to Nick Cantalupo with 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Warren Hills 47, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 27: An early deficit became too much as Scotch Plains-Fanwood (2-6) trailed 28-7 at the half and 41-7 after the third quarter. Emendo Thomas scored on a 12 yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter for the Raiders. Kobe White found the end zone on runs of two and six yards in the fourth quarter while Justin Iaione also got into the scoring mix with a 30 yard scamper for Scotch Plains-Fanwood.

Linden 17, Watchung Hills 10: Juwan Dolbrice scored the game-winning touchdown with about three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to break a 10-10 tie and lift Linden (4-3) to the win. Watchung Hills (5-3) led 7-0 at halftime as quarterback Joe Giacomo scored on a two yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, but Linden took a 10-7 lead in the third quarter as Corey Ampey hit a 21-yard field goal and Kyle Phipps had a six-yard rushing touchdown. Warriors kicker Joe Ettore tied the game 10-10 in the fourth quarter with a field goal.
