Let the celebration continue for Seton Catholic Central’s baseball program.
The team that shut out its final three opponents in a state-championship season has swept the top available honors on the New York State Sports Writers Association’s all-state teams.
Saints junior Michael Korchak is Player of the Year in Class C and 10th-year Seton Catholic Central leader Jim Miller the Coach of the Year. Yet another from the state champions, senior Patrick Gosney, was selected to the Class C first team.
Seton Catholic Central polished off a 19-4 season by outscoring three state-playoff opponents by an aggregate 13-0 — limiting the trio of foes to 10 hits.
Gosney turned in a two-hit, 15-strikeout effort in the quarterfinal round, Korchak struck out 12 in a four-hit semifinal win against the state’s top-ranked ‘C’ team, and Gosney came back with a four-hit shutout of Geneseo in the final. The state championship was a first for Seton CC’s baseball program.
Senior Carter Austin of Section 4 champion Maine-Endwell was named to the second team in Class A, and junior Nick Wegmann of runner-up Vestal to the third team.
