Sam Ekiert lifts Hilton to win


Sam Ekiert scored the winner with less than four minutes left to lift Hilton to a 9-8 victory over Fairport in a Monroe County girls lacrosse game on Wednesday.

The Cadets (1-2), in their fourth season at the varsity level, earned their first win over a team on the east side of Monroe County. Senior goalie Jess Zagari made nine saves in the win. Briana Kimble was Hilton’s leading scorer with three goals and three assists.

Maddie Howe scored four goals for Fairport, while Alyssa Blockman had three with two assists.

Georgetown Prep (D.C.) 13, Brighton 11

Carly Randall, Lauren Smolensky, McKenzie Parris and Emilie Goldman each scored two goals for Brighton (1-1). Georgetown broke an 11-all tie with two goals in the final three minutes.

Port Washington-XI 7

Megan Maloney had four goals and one assist and Hannah Savage added with two goals and two assists for Victor (1-0).

Pittsford 17,
Menlow (Calif.) 3

Tori Wehner had three goals and seven assists to lead Pittsford (3-0) in Orlando, Fla. Holly Turner, Abi Cullinan and Shannon Bissnette each netted three goals for the Panthers.

Elizabeth Seton (Md.) 3

Abi Cullinan and Tori Wehner recorded three goals apiece for Pittsford.

Fairport 16, Hilton 4

Jay Vakiener recorded three goals and two assists and Justin Kesselring scored three goals for Fairport (2-0). Cameron Gebhardt tallied two goals and Dan McAvoy added a goal and two assists for the Red Raiders.

Brian Russo had three goals for Hilton (1-1).


Palmyra-Macedon 9, Newark 0

Cody Eckerson and Todd Brockhuizen combined to throw a one-hitter for Pal-Mac (2-0) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Eckerson, who will play at Niagara next year, didn’t allow a hit, gave up one walk over five innings and struck out 12 of the 16 batters he faced.

Zach Coughlin gave up three hits and two unearned runs over six innings for Brockport (1-1) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Tom Sydeski threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for Brockport. Zach Coughlin went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Blue Devils.

Ryan Lawrence gave up four hits and one earned run over 51/3 to earn the win and Joey Alloco was 2-for-3 for Brighton (4-0).

Tyler Dardzinski went 2-for-3 with a double and Phil Huang allowed two runs with six strikeouts over four innings for Fairport (1-2).

Josh Bush singled with two outs in the eighth to drive in John Clemens to give Victor (2-1) a 3-2 lead in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Pat Metzger allowed two hits and three walks while striking out eight over eight innings and went 3-for-3 at the plate for Victor.

Greece Athena 14, Georgetown Day (D.C.) 4

Ryan Prevost had two hits and three RBI and Dan Curtis hit a two-run double for the Trojans (1-1) in Orlando, Fla.

Ryan Prevost and Frankie Carnevale hit back-to-back triples to produce the lone run for Greece Athena.

St. Francis De Sales (Columbus) 11, Canandaigua 7

Sean Outhouse went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored and Travis Welch finished 3-for-4 with two RBI for Canandaigua (0-2).

Cam Yatteau went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Charles Wan, Ben Trageser and Pierce Hawley combined for a three-hitter for Penfield (2-0) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Pittsford Sutherland 5, Elizabeth (N.J.) 2

Michael Vanderzwaag threw a complete game, allowing five hits one earned run with three strikeouts, for his first varsity win for the Knights (3-1) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Patrick McKay added two RBI for Pittsford Sutherland.

Greece Olympia 15, Marshall/Freddie Thomas 1

Jake Graham threw a complete game, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out 10, for Olympia (1-0).

Victor 5, Elizabeth 4

Dale Wickham hit a grand slam with two outs in the seventh inning for Victor.

Desiree Gonzalez and Amanda Dow each singled for the Titans (0-1) in Orlando, Fla.

Mackenzie Cleary went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI and Jill Gueli added two hits and two runs scored for Fairport (2-1) in Charleston, S.C.

Rush-Henrietta 15, Cuyahoga Valley (Ohio) 8

Jessica Hendrick and Alyssa Posner each went 3-for-5 for R-H (2-1) in Charleston, S.C. Jordyn Simmons and Kerrianne Reynolds had two hits apiece for R-H.

Brianna Bunch and Taylor Light each had two hits and an RBI and Julia DiMartino tossed a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts for Brockport (1-1).

Fairport 13, Cuyahoga Valley (Ohio) 3

Karen Jablonski hit a two-run home run and doubled for Fairport.
